I just have booked a rewards flight SYD CDG and return LHR SYD
have to say part of the considerations behind my dates were having to experience 1st class with other airlines apart from Qantas
Obviously :) people book the travel to visit stacks of places on a fixed cost but do many just book to try out different airlines?

Well unless we want to transit through Eastern Coast we don’t have any choice other than to use other airlines.

I'm keen to try Qatar and that flies out of Adelaide. Interesting the difference in Emirates between J in the 777 and 380 was amazing (bad for the 777). I won't fly the 777 out of Adelaide again unless I'm in F :D

A reward booking certainly provides us an opportunity to try different airlines, but this is secondary to actually getting flights on or around the days we want them. Business class availability being what it is, I will take what I can get - admittedly on our next trip we get to try out Qatar (both older cabin and Qsuites) - though at a cost premium due the carrier charges. I don't have enough points to fly in F (and to be honest J is good enough and I would rather save the points difference for the next trip).

We have gradually worked our way through the amazing First Class products of Cathay, Emirates, Qantas, Lufthansa. Next on the list is Qatar first ex Perth, and currently working on a trip in Singapore Suites, ANA or JAL. Being Adelaide based, its usually a business class flight to Singapore or Hong Kong, then onto the main course for truly spectacular First Class lounge and flight service. So far nothing has topped Lufthansa in Frankfurt for the Porsche airside transfer, and the amazing lounge service.

I’m hearing you. The EK 777 service from ADL in J was terrible and something we won’t repeat. Extends the journey a bit but it’s a much better experience to go via MEL and pick up the A380. The MEL EK lounge and the extra CD’s are an added bonus.
As per the OP though I think many people like to try out the different services on offer and as someone who is an impulsive traveller it’s often near on impossible to find award seats so we tend to pay for most of our flights

Qatar is our preferred airline currently. Unless they cancel our ADELAIDE flight again. EK - not so much. Awful 777 although last time we were upgraded to F.....

I'm looking at a trip and Qatar is one of the two good options.

Does anyone have thoughts on their ongoing problems and where that is heading?

I can see Qatar flights in Qantas awards 12 months ahead so that seems fine. I’d very much doubt that the Government would let it fail.

.... and happy with J class? (A380 & A350)
Oh yeah. Very very nice. Especially the A350. Just seems better than the larger 380. So obviously less people to service. The bar part way through is nice too. Nice amenity kits too. And excellent PJs. My favourite.

Thanks.

Looking at MEL-DOH-EDI

Was just about to ask the same. Looks like good award availability from ADL for when we want. Looking at ADL-DOH-PRG or ADL-DOH-CDG and the DOH-PRG leg is on their B787 whilst the DOH-CDG leg is on their A380. Any pros and cons of either?

Are there Q suites on the 787?

If there is a choice to try out a new airline with a good product then I may take it 'just to try'. I'll even be prepared to add a transit for that prupose. I would swap TG BKK-LHR for Turkish (TK) BKK-IST-LHR for example. But I would be unlikely to swap TG for MS (Egyptair) BKK-CAI-LHR - but that's because of the seats and lack of alcohol on MS.
