Also - just wondering - does anyone actually log into their FF account with Facebook? What is the point? Feels like something that a teenager booking a trip to Bali would do rather than Mr High-Flying-Business Man. Personally I do not have any social media accounts so the benefit/value of using Facebook to log into an airline's website is completely lost on me....

Because it’s a one click method to log in without having to type anything - when you have to log in to numerous websites and remember different log in details, Facebook log in saves all that and makes the process easier.

I’m told the teenagers aren’t big on Facebook, that’s more of a 30/40-something site.

So does the keychain on my Mac.... which sits encrypted on my computer & iphone and not some 3rd party server somewhere else.

That’s not how it works. Qantas matches your Facebook profile - Facebook doesn’t store your password.

You asked what the point was and I told you. It’s not for everybody but it has a valid use and is industry standard. I’m not promoting its use.

I don’t use FB, so a genuine question. If you log into a site like Qantas via FB, how much of your site activity does FB get to know? Merely that you've used that site, or also your activity within it?

Would you like the Facebook PR response?

Or the Facebook CEO getting grilled in court and admitting the real truth response?

I don’t mind the new landing page, think it’s fine! I still have access to the info I want unlike some other airlines that enhance that away.... Look forward to the storm a teacup AFF brigades thoughts though :)

Once you’ve logged in the activity is on Qantas’ servers so Facebook gets zip.

The risk is on the other side, Qantas gets some information from your Facebook profile.

Thanks, and Ah! So if I created a fake Facebook profile, where I'm the travel manager for a very large international organisation, with $5mill pa discretionary travel spend, do ya reckon my chances of getting a Chairman's Lounge invite will be 'enhanced'? :)

I would highly doubt that. Facebook don't do nuthin for free.
Does anyone actually know what the deal is though? How does it actually work? What do they promise to share/keep safe?... can't find anything on the website that addresses this

That’s just not how the internet works... it’s not possible. It would require qantas to actively transmit back to Facebook. Just... no.

Too many conspiracy theories with zero knowledge of how the internet and web servers actually work!

Is 2101 before or after you get to LTP? :D

LOL - possibly the centenary celebration held by future archaeologists of me being an valued Ansett Diamond who subsequently moved to QF after the loss of a couple mil points and complimentary Golden Wing membership.

Maybe, but you'll notice we are asking questions ... usually the way to gain a better knowledge. Conspiracy theories? When it comes to Facebook, I'd say such also fall into the realms of distinct possibility.

I agree Facebook would do nothing for free. I expect Qantas has to remit some info back to FB, for the privilege of their customers using one-click log-on (which, by the way, I do without using FB :) )
