Regional Express Delays/Cancellations

Thursday 25 February's ZL316 from SYD to GFN is timetabled to depart at 0700 but only took off at 0729. It should arrive at about 0900, 35 minutes late.

ZL311 on the short hop from LSY to GFN is about an hour and a half late, arriving at 0840. Aircraft is SAAB340B VH-ZLA.

The Sunday 6 March short hop from KGC to ADL that is the task of ZL4768 saw takeoff at 1508, 18 minutes after the timetabled departure. However arrival is expected at about 1548, 25 minutes late. There is a heavy storm over Adelaide that was not well predicted by our friends at the BOM ('possible shower, 30 per cent chance.')

ZL954 (0820 hours SYD to ARM) is quite late on Monday 7 March 2016 as VH-EKH (the usual SAAB 340B) is only taxiing at 0900 hours.

Thursday 10 March sees ZL4362 (0900 ADL to 'tuna capital' PLO) having taken off at 0943. It should arrive at about 1035, 45 minutes late. Aircraft is SAAB 340B VH-ZRJ.

ZL4356 from ADL to PLO, the 0815 hours departure appears to have turned around not far short of its destination and returned to ADL. Aircraft is VH-ZRC. Confirmation from other AFFers would be appreciated as caution can be called for in interpreting these occurrences, but that is what FR24 and Flight Aware are suggesting.

The Thursday 10 March ZL3187, 1750 ex ABX, was airborne at 1827 and after being in a holding pattern over Tatong (near Benalla) should arrive at about 1845, 55 minutes late. SAAB 340B VH-REX is the appropriately registered aircraft, but unfortunately for Rex city centre to city centre it is quicker to travel on NSW TrainLink's XPT - mind you, not everyone is travelling CBD to CBD but it is a good example as to how air travel for short distances may not always be the best option, especially considering the relatively higher fare charged by smaller airlines.

On Friday 11 March the 0700 from MEL to MIM, ZL3468 (SAAB340B VH-ZLG) was not airborne until 0837. ZL3656 (0815 MEL to MQL) is delayed in departing for 90 minutes until an expected 0945.

The late running ZL3468 (see post 26) from MEL to MIM appears to have turned back to MEL. Not sure why.

UPDATE: ZL3562, the 1400 hours from BWT to MEL took off at 1443. It is about to arrive at 1550 hours, 35 minutes behind time. Craft is SAAB340B VH-ZRM.

That is because ZL3558 BWT-MEL took off 50 minutes late as they had to carry extra fuel due to conditions at MEL and then had to offload several bags-a few not very happy campers.Would have caused a knockon effect to all BWT services.
Fortunately they didn't ask to offload my bag.Didn't worry me as it meant I walked into the JQ section of T4 just 30 seconds before bag drop started for my flight to MCY.So didn't have to find a spare window sill spot.

ZL3683, the 1830 hours early evening from MQL to MEL on Tuesday 14 March took off at 1901. Arrival should be at about 2027, 37 minutes late. SAAB 340B VH-ZRN is the conveyance.

The 0640 hours SYD - WGA, ZL659 did not take off until 0727 on Wednesday 16 March. Aircraft is SAAB 340B VH-RXE. Arrival is expected 40 minutes late at 0835.

The 1015 from BWT to MEL on Sunday 20 March, ZL3558 (SAAB340B VH-ZRN) should arrive at about 1242, 72 minutes behind time.

UPDATE: ZL527, the 1720 hours from PKE took off at 1755 late this afternoon and should arrive at about 1905, 45 minutes late. SAAB 340B VH-ZRY is doing the honours.

On Monday 21 March, ZL3258, the 0900 MEL to WGA (SAAB 340B VH-YRX) took off at 1236 and should arrive at about 1342, three hours and 32 minutes late.

While not everyone is travelling from Melbourne's CBD or suburbs to the east or southeast and such delays may be completely unpredictable and hence unknown until one arrives at the airport or has approached the checkin desk (or even later), today it would have been cheaper (at $50 single) and faster to travel on NSWTrainLink's XPT train departing Melbourne's Southern Cross station at 0830, arriving Wagga (close to the centre of the city, not at the airport) at 1307:

ZL3464 (0935 MGB - MEL) took off at 1146 and should arrive shortly at about 1320 (instead of 1115) with SAAB 340B VH-ZLG doing the honours.

Regional Express ('Rex') must have had multiple problems in MEL this morning.

Regional Express' last departure ex MEL on Easter Monday, 28 March 2016, ZL3579 to BWT did not take off until 2015 hours.

On Thursday 31 March, ZL3763, the 0835 MEL to MGB is showing as delayed until about 0905 in departure but that time has passed. FlightAware suggests that it may not be airborne until 0940 hours.

Sunday 3 April 2016 sees ZL139, the evening 1850 hours from SYD to MYA airborne at 1920 but arrival not expected until post 2010 hours, at least half an hour late. The SAAB 340B operating the flight is VH-ZLG.

On Friday 6 May 2016, ZL3557, the 0845 MEK across Bass Strait to BWT was airborne at 0937 (aircraft SAAB 340B VH-ZLR.) Arrival should be at around 1025, half an hour behind schedule.

On Monday 9 May 2015, ZL114 from MYA to SYD (SAAB 340B VH-ZRJ), the 0715 departure, did not take off until 0752 and hence arrived at about 0852, 37 minutes late.

ZL762, the first of the morning from ABX, arrived SYD at about 0858 hours (63 minutes late), with SAAB 340B VH-ZLR doing the honours. It was meant to depart from the gate at 0630 but was not airborne until 0745 hours.

To complete a troika of delays, ZL853 (VH-ZRK), the 0630 hours from BHQ took off on time at 0640 but has lost time en route, with arrival suggested as 1005, 45 minutes late.

ZL3656, the 0815 MEL up to sunny MQL was airborne at 0903 and should arrive at about 1010, 35 minutes late. VH-REX is the aircraft.

ZL773 from SYD down to ABX (SAAB 340B VH-ZLR) is timetabled to depart at 1145 but did not take off until 1236, so arrival should be at just before 1400 instead of 1310, almost 50 minutes late.

ZL174 from SYD to OAG on Monday 9 May 2016 had a departure time of 1240 and took off at 1250, but from what I can see on FR24 looks to be returning to SYD with an expected arrival time there of about 1458 (instead of an OAG arrival at 1330.)

Is there a medical problem on board, or a mechanical or electrical fault, or some other reason? VH-ZLG is the aircraft, which also looks to have circled other both Bathurst and Orange Airports. As far as I can see this is an RPT flight not a training or freight flight.

UPDATE: ZL3574, the 1620 hours from BWT was airborne at 1715 and should arrive in MEL at about 1842, 67 minuts behind time. SAAB 340B VH-ZXG is the aircraft.
