Unable to travel recently, have been silver for years but have dropped back to bronze. Would 'regain' silver status this yr with intended normal travel 'however' could alternatively incorporate this 'normal travel' into a one world classic award trip (5 stopovers). I am thinking, as bronze means nothing to aim for or retain (status credits earned etc) this would be an opportune time to utilise the one world classic award! Sorry if confusing (head spinning) but am I 'sorta' correct or missing something??
Thoughts appreciated.....

What class are you looking to book for the one world award? The reason I ask is because if you are looking for J flights, I think you'll struggle to find much availability with bronze status. Might be fine if you are just looking for Y

Business (without a doubt)! Thanks for raising this. I can see award seats online, for sectors I am interested in and (probably stupidly) thought I could just book them? As I am bronze does it mean they are not automatically available?

If you can see them you can most likely book them, there are the odd occasions of phantom availability. Whenever I am looking for reward bookings as soon as I see them I just book them, rewards can disappear with the same ease as they appear.

Why not be a little more creative with your OW J RTW and gain SG - this can *easily* be done.

Last March I flew MEL-SYD-DFW-JFK-HEL-LHR-HEL-HKG-SIN-MEL with 2 stopovers (DFW, LHR) - all in J ... a nifty little AY J special. Netted 840 SCs.

True! Thanks for the insight, much appreciated.
QFF points are not a currency that is appreciating. If you have the points for a J award and availability then isn't that the stars aligning?

Thanks, would definitely be very interested in that! However, I thought you didn't earn status credits when flying classic reward seats?? Please tell me if I am wrong in that assumption? (As I've said, looking for clues!)

You are correct
Poster was referring to buying a (hopefully cheap) RTW instead of the OWE award

This poster is confused. You do not earn status credits with a classic award flight, which is what you're interested in.

The benefits of silver over bronze are very marginal. Use your points and book the J classic award flight, especially if you're lucky enough to have availability for the flights you want.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks, appreciate your expertise, very helpful! (Also the confirmation of silver compared to bronze!)

Thanks so much for confirming (now, I know where I am....sorta!)

Good luck. Also as @BD1959 mentioned, you might look into the option of buying the RTW fares with $ and land into Gold. Although this depends on the how much $ you are able to/willing to spend and how many points you've got.

You may also check if it's possible to buy RTW J fares with a mix of points & cash. This way, you could use the points and get SC as well.

This poster is not confused, the OP was opining on purchasing "normal travel" versus booking a RTW J. Given a OW RTW Y could easily jump into the $3k plus bucket, I merely suggested that a AY RTW J Sale fare could possibly earn enough SCs for Gold.

I'm also not confused/deranged enough into thinking that an award flight is going to earn SCs.🤪

The OP's response indicates that it was confusing. It's perfectly clear that the OP's 'normal travel' is BFOD economy tickets given his/her status is bronze/silver. There is a world of difference between a $1200 BFOD economy return ticket to Europe and a $6-7K round-the-world business class fare.

Thanks, sorry for any confusion, appreciate being able to bounce these things off experts, it's very helpful.

Really?? But then a $1200 BFOD is hardly likely to include 5 stopovers, lay-flat beds, lounge access etc the OP would experience flying J. A better comparison would have been the 280k points + roughly $1500 such a J award would cost.

The question then becomes: how much value do you place on 280k points - plus Gold benefit for 12months-plus - only the OP can decide that, which is why it was suggested as an *option*.

True, vey grateful for the wealth of knowledge offered to me by all. Whilst 'bronze' I shall use points (pay for award assist) to hopefully book 'one world classic award business' for my trip! 😵

So much insight, thanks very much! 'One world classic business award' (whilst paying for award assist) here I come.....this time. Will save funds to purchase business flights in future to attain higher status....😶
