The very idea of the credit note being sent to another of their “departments” as a Qantas flight pass. Once the shift off to that Qantas flight pass an advertised air flight listed on the internet with your enquiry is forwarded to the wonderful Department of the Qantas flight Pass, the flight is increased by between 20-40%.
It appears that your FF No is the indicator to the Qantas Booking Computer to increase the price of the advertised flight.
Even further to try to contact Qantas by Phone is a waste of time. As one TV reporter advised it was quicker to fly from Sydney to Perth before a phone call is answered
I have been annoyed with a Qantas credit to the Qantas Credit Pass. I have sent a number of emails to Qantas requesting a refund and not a credit.
Qantas returned 4 times with a SR number” we are busy at the moment an will contact you shortly” The first SR code message dated 17.03.2022. Only once did Qantas return an email with “please provide a time and date with your phone number so we can ring you“. I complied with this request with a returned email stating date, time and phone number. Sat and waited the 4 hours time spot NO PHONE CALL
Customer Service is NIL
My Flights were booked and paid for 26.07.2019, prior to any idea of covid19, for a trip to Melb and Gold Coast May 2020. Flights cancelled by Qantas. It is now 34 months since I paid for the flights. Enough is enough pay the refund for the full amount.
Any suggestions to how I get a refund of some 34 months ago Please

If QF cancelled your flight you would have been entitled to a full refund. Early in COVID QF were very quick to remove this as an online option and the only option was to take a credit. Once you accept this QF will argue that you accepted the T's & C's and you are stuck with the credit note.

Your comment "It appears that your FF No is the indicator to the Qantas Booking Computer to increase the price of the advertised flight." is a completely seperate issue. Your QFF has nothing to do with the increase in price, this is related to the original fare bucket, these were the rules pre COVID and a source of frustration for many. For a while during COVID this rule was relaxed but may have been reintroduced, not 100% sure but I think the @AFF Editor may have published a story on this subject.

Also welcome to AFF.

The only problem I didn't agree to anything regarding a credit as they just issued such without any consultation. Now stuck with a Qantas Credit Pass which I didn't agree too. Just advised that is what I have. I have repeatedly asked for a refund. No replies from Qantas, can't ring, no one answers the photo. July 2019 prior to Covid and I am still trying for a credit. I am a bit annoyed at their attitude.
My son had his refund within 2-3 months of cancelled flights some 18 -20 months ago. I am on the 34month wait list. I would hate to think it may be age that I am held up.
Once again thanks for your comments and I appreciate your comments.
It was the same with Air NZ I had a claim from travel insurance from Allianz. The got out of that one with "Balance of Probabilities". Air NZ came good when they allowed me to forward their application for refund
have a look at your second para

In my experience the Qantas Travel Pass is much better to use than a flight credit - for one thing can be used to book flights for people other than those whose flights were cancelled and I have not seen in the ones I have had an increase in price of flights based on its use at all. A flight credit T&Cs did specify that flights were to be of a higher value and also any change fee was taken off at the end.

Frustrating yes, but from QF's point of view you "accepted" (I know you say you didn't, but still) a credit when the flights were cancelled in March 2020. You now have a travel pass(which is BETTER than a flight credit, as noted above, you should not have the higher fare options you were complaining about with a TP). I understand fully you want a refund. the problem is having being issued a TP I'm not sure if there is a procedure for this now. You may have to again brave the call cenre.

Be aware those TP's probably have a Dec 2022 expiry date so you'd need to book with it by then. I know, you don't WANT to book flights and be done with this, but if you can't get that refund it's important to be aware of this.

The ACCC pinged Qantas for this back in June 2020. If Qantas cancelled the original flight, the customer is entitled to a refund.

If your flight credits were converted to a Qantas (travel) pass which from Reading the originating post they were, this effectively become a debit card multi-use payment method with an expiry date of 12/23. Which can if needs be offloaded to anyone else.

I had 5 of these. Takes a bit of juggling to use but successfully managed to do so for 4 people flights to Perth....which BTW were double the price of pre-COVID...
now got $19 left to spend ...

if they are old flight credits, then they would have been archived then purged. They can be retrieved but can only be refunded. In addition to the 5 above, I had 3 of them which have now successfully made their way to my credit card account. $444

Changing gears a bit. Can flight credits be used for any future bookings to any destination? Of course fare differences & taxes will apply.

The reason I'm asking is because I have a return flight to YVR booked for next January but don't think I'll be able to do the trip and if I cancel, I believe the only option available to me is a flight credit. Someone told me that if I accept a flight credit from Qantas, I'm required to use the credit to book the exact same itinerary, ie return flight to YVR. Is this true?

I believe the flight credit would need to be used for a single new booking of equal or greater value.

Is there an option to get a refund, even for a fee, under the original fare conditions? This may be better than a flight credit worth several thousands of dollars.

Unfortunately it looks like the ticket was a non-refundable fare unless cancelled by Qantas.

I'm still curious to know if I accepted a flight credit whether I'm required to book the exact same itinerary as the original booking.

Not to my knowledge

  • Flight Credits can be used online towards one way or return bookings from the country in which the original ticket was issued. To redeem a Flight Credit for a flight departing outside of that country, for a multi-city itinerary or an itinerary including Jetstar flights, contact your local Qantas office.
  • Flight Credits are non-transferable.
  • Name changes are not permitted.

which means itinerary changes are permitted
