Not sure if anyone here know's the answer but here's hoping.

I'm flying to Sydney (from London) on BA in Buiness Class and have now discovered I need to get a connecting flight to Canberra the same day. I was just going to book a red e-deal but wondered what would happen if my international flight was delayed and I missed the flight.

Would I be able to get on the next available flight with the same ticket or would I have to buy a new one?

Am I better off paying for a flexi saver or fully flexible ticket?

Also how long should be left between scheduled arrival and departure times of the flights? I was thinking about 3 hours, does that seem right?

Thanks,
Emma

I have "connected" to a SYD-CBR flight from both NZ and UA several times... obviously booked separately!

Was late once and QF wasn't at all concerned - straight on to the next flight.

Was I just lucky?

If you are late and you miss it Qantas may help you but but they are under no obligation to do so at all and may make you just buy another ticket

If I was doing the journey from UK, I would pay the extra for a flexi saver through AA in the UK and pay the approx GBP40 over the cheapest red-e-deal which will (a) give you protection ... if flight ends up being late leaving, you can just contact QF and make changes and (b) means that you can just hop on the first flight available out of SYD when you arrive rather than having to sit around for the 3 hours

check the conditions on your BA ticket as you may be ale to change it to include the segment to CBR for minimal additional cost, and then you are protected by way of being a single through ticket.
