My parents are hosting a themed dinner party for 10 people with the theme being 'holidays'.

They would like to try and recreate a standard Y long-haul dinner meal. The actual food itself is not a problem, but they are wondering how to present it authentically. They are hoping to be able to find some kind of trays and the little plastic containers (square and rectangular) that the meals usually come in (with the clear plastic tops). Any suggestions on where to find this? Online? Catering suppliers can do pre-wrapped plastic cutlery sets but minimum orders of 250 sets which is obviously far too much!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you gone down to a food court or somewhere fast food like to see if they have the pre-wrapped cutlery?

Check on the internet flarose pty ltd. they sell old ansett crockery/ cutlery

I see you're in Melbourne.

What about one of those japanese stores in the city, like Diaso?

They have lots of things in this style. It's obviously not the real deal but it's certainly cheap:

Occasionally you'll find old airline dinner & cutlery sets on eBay too

Those $2-import-everything-from-China stores will have packs of aluminium trays with cardboard lids on them, I'd recommend them, cheap too.

Why not just buy some of those healhy choice/ lite n easy microwave meals. Similar product, similar size, similar or better flavour ;)

Sumo Salad stores are usually good for leaving pre-packed cutlery out that you could grab a handful of when you walk by.

Ikea or $2 shops for the containers. You could also use alfoil to wrap the tops (similar to when hot foods are presented).

Make sure that you get someone to recline into their meals during service.

Shake the dinner table for about 5 seconds at random intervals to simulate turbulence.

Alternatively book some QF flights and steal the lot including food & whip it out at your party

Would be interested in seeing pics of your final work!

Don't forget to offer a choice of chicken or beef, but by the time you serve them, there's only one "choice" left.

Don't forget to take all of their beer and wine off them at the door for 'security reasons' and then sell it back to them at $7/glass.

Funniest thread I have read in ages. Utterly wonderful.

The most awesome way to have such a dinner party would be to serve the meals from a galley trolley!
