The 100ml limit has been removed in many countries, why does Australia still have it?

Many airports internationally have now removed the 100ml liquid restriction over the past few years, a benefit of the new CT scanners which also allow you to leave everything in your bag.

SYD and MEL have the new scanners but have both said there's no plans to remove the 100ml liquid restriction.

Why is Australia so behind?

3 years later and we're still the same as this from 2022:

I have but this was about international

I dunno, but the OP is talking about international.

I’m not sure removal of the 100ml limit is that widespread.

USA still has 100ml on domestic and therefore outbound international.

UK is currently not consistent and one should assume 100ml for now (or don’t hand carry your single malt).

NZ is still 100ml on international.

SIN is 100ml

HKG is 100ml

Etc etc

So there’s a real risk of travelling to/from Oz you might get your LAGs confiscated along the way - frustrating as it is.

I still as a matter of course put my LAGs in a plastic bag, even though that’s not required departing SYD but if there’s a false alarm at the screening, it’s easy to get them all out in one go.

I’ve been taking more than 100ml through Heathrow and London City for at least 2 years now. I don’t think it was ever officially confirmed, but if you went through a lane with the new scanners then the limits don’t apply.

Similarly most airports in Europe.

The same reason why we still have paper entry requirements. A secondary liquids search pre boarding in Indonesia and Thailand. It's Australia.

Because a former transport minister who lied when forcing out body scanners is currently running the country.

I actually don’t agree that it’s many airports / countries that have scrapped the 100ml limit.
Even when they do it can be dependent on the Terminal, Fast track v main etc.
And also at the whim of change of the current regulations. Examples where flip flops have occurred are LCY and LHR T5 F wing. Both currently unrestricted.

What would make a massive difference is if every airport allowed all compliant liquids to be anywhere in your carry on items.
The sandwich bags do my head in.

I mean yeh scrapping the requirements for 100ml everywhere would be great but we are in good company still having them. USA for instance.
