Waiver received on approx $50k personal stuff plus ATO payments (which stick out like dogs b@alls).
SWMBO did it with ease. But she is a sweet talker.

Ugh ! My tax bill stuck out as well and I didn't even end up earning points with the cancellation. Too clever by half.

Originally paid for this card ($89) but since then, requested, & given a waiver each time I asked... This year I donated my $89 saved to Movember :D

At least you have done something with the fee waiver, I applaud that. It makes it worthy.

The people who consistently ask for fee waivers for no reason really cough me. If you don't want to pay for the card don't apply for it.

You at least made it noble!

I am happy to pay for this card, but if I can use my annual fee for a more charitable way with the help of the CC company then I will. The way I see it, by doing it this way EVERYBODY wins.

+ QEDRCC keep me as a customer.
+ Movember got a good donation.
+ I keep the card for another 12 months.

This is a really good card, however their back office customer support and the way they charge interest on this card is terrible... Also recently this card has issues of the 2x bonus points for Qantas purchases on this card, i.e the bonus points apparently are not being posted and need to be continually followed up.

Good card, but should be better...

I have stopped using for QF spend, but had an emergencey where it was the only QF linked card in wallet. No bonus points - need to follow up again this week.... ugh

Interesting statement but must confess I don't understand it, what's noble about paying an arbitrary fee charged by the company to make profit if you can avoid it. Overseas (where there is more competition) the credit card companies don't charge annual fees nearly as much, why do you regard credit card annual fees as "Special". Most of us negotiate on many items we pay for and or look for the best deals, why are you so upset about people negotiating their credit card fees?

Completely agree, nothing wrong with trying to negotiate a better price. People who just take what is on offer without any negotiation are fools.

Just phoned up HSBC yesterday asking for a fee waiver. Put through to cancellation department, told them my intention to cancel because I got the Citibank Platinum fee free for life. Successful waiver for another year, refund of $89 in next statement. Did not need to have a zero balance on the card, as long as you made payment ontime every month.

Excellent, good to know. I will be calling tomorrow to request a waiver on our card, rang Friday arvo but cancellation team had just closed by the time I finally got through after waiting on hold for ages and the call being disconnected. The first customer service rep I spoke to wouldn't give me any guarantees but said we should be able to get the fee waived for this year.

EDIT: Just added up our yearly spend, was a bit over 25k so I'm not so sure how that will go.

I rang up to get my annual fee waived but they pointed out that I had only had the card for 70 days. I pointed out that during that 70 days I had put about $60k thru it. They scratched their head a bit and threw 1000 QFF points at me. I was happy with that, 1000 points is better than nothing!

Did everyone ring up about the annual fee before it came on the statement?

A friend of mine has the card and knows I got mine waived - I knew when mine was coming and rang up before the statement charging ti was issued. Now a statement for April has just arrived with a friend with the fee on it - is it too late to ring requesting waiver/threatening to cancel successfully?

My annual fee is due mid next month, so I phoned up today to cancel the card. I was put through to the account closure department, who offered to waive the annual fee for this year. I doubt I use it, but will hang on to it just in case.

I'm happy to pay the fee, but each year I ask for it to be waived...! :D

You never know what you get until you ask, and $89 saving for a 10 min call is good in my opinion...
