Recent Experiences with Qantas' terminal transfer at SYD

Anyone with a more recent experience? In particular transferring to or from a foreign carrier?

I've had numerous pax use the QF D to I SYD transfer this year for the following.

All of the below examples were same PNR, so QF had through-checked baggage to final destination and printed all boarding passes.

QF commercial -> SQ award
QF commercial -> SQ commercial
QF commercial -> QF commercial
QF award -> QF award
QF award -> BA award
QF commercial -> NH commercial
QF commercial -> EK commercial
QF commercial -> EK award
QF commercial -> BA commercial
QF commercial -> QR award
QF commercial -> QR commercial

In the opposite direction for SYD I to D, I've had even more combinations than the above. Bags tagged through to final domestic destination, so the pax just had to drop bags at the transfer facility.

Haven't done International travel for a while, will be travelling to Japan with JAL soon.
BNE-SYD-HND and back.
Since JAL is oneworld, when checking in at BNE, I should be issued with onwards ticket SYD-HND right? Also, am I able to use the seamless transfer bus at the SYD Qantas domestic (Gate15??) across to international?? and my baggage would be through-checked?

On seperate tickets QF will only interline QF to QF & QF to EK. With an exception for an award.

Its under one booking confirmation reference, I am unsure as to what it means by 1 ticket or separate tickets? The itinerary shows 2 sectors, BNE-SYD then SYD-HND

Yes the booking reference is a 6 alpha numeric combo, and it was booked together, not separately.
btw, what does PNR stands for?
So I should be good right?...with seamless transfer and Through-checked....

Technically a booking can have multiple PNR's associated with it, but usually a "master" PNR. For example if one books multiple airline sectors, each operating airline may have its own PNR for the booking - or its part of it. Most specially when crossing GDS' boundaries. For example, say one books with QF on Amadeus including AA trips, AA will have it's own PNR in SABRE associated with the trip. However the "master PNR" would be with QF.

This is how one ends up with the confusion sometimes when dealing with partner airlines on bookings and needing to get their reference (also called reloc/record locator) to do things like seat requests and other specific items.

VAd direct ADL SYD Cancelled.
I have been put through ADL MEL SYD with VAd.
Hour later arr into SYD
Had Rydges day room booked, looks like it will be a shorter time in there in SYD and Rydges.

Cause it was canned for 1½ years or so because of COVID and when reintroduced, it was 'different' enough to be 'new'. Check Post #1.

Thanks, I missed that. Still don't see any difference between old and new. Busses still take ages to arrive.

Back in April the Qantas Bus was landside; you had to take their Bus to T3 then security for Int->Dom transfers.

I didn't travel then so missed the "lite" experience. It seems these posts, which are very welcome, are now about the regular seamless transfer, which has been in place since 1996, but didn't merit any posts unless ithin other travel posts..

Sorry that I didn't have the time on Thu last week to do a "scouting mission".
Will probably do a QF T3 to T1 and back at SYD later in 2023.
((I expect it to be a different set up T1 to T3 as from my last EK CHC - SYD flight years ago now.))

It changed to "lite" during the Covid control season then changed back to the regular in about July 2022. I understand "lite" meant the bus was less frequent and went round public roads.

No. Everything is back the way it was in the beforetimes. Same location for transfer in INT (ie: down to the end past maccas, out the door and a few minutes walk to the dom transfer. Same gate 15 at T3 reception. None of that has changed.

Agree just did the trip today around 515 pm. Flight from MEL was delayed an hour all up. Good thing we had lots of buffer. The CHC passengers probably struggle to make their flight. Sign said next bus was 545pm. All up about an hour from deplane to lounge with priority lanes for platinum etc. through immigration n security. It was empty.

Mine was 11:15 am from T3 on Christmas Eve so looks like it's every half hour?
