Recent disappointing SYD-SIN J catering experience

Had an Eat-on-Q failure on QF41 to CGK.
My meal was presented to the chap in the seat behind me, even though the flight attendant addressed that passenger Mr. Rangalad. My surname is very uncommon. The flight attendant then saw me and was embarrassed but not apologetic. ‘I’m sorry your meal wasn’t loaded Mr. Rangalad’. The lie angered me more than the initial mistake. Second time this has happened.

I had something similar with a kids meal for one of my sons on a BKK-SYD flight in Y. Meal comes for youngest but not eldest. A meal was delivered to a Thai teen girl in the row opposite and I hear them say my sons name. I look around at the lady and she asks if my sons name is Alexander. I say yeah and she apologies as her daughter had already started eating it and she didn’t check the name on it before hand. Turns out they didn’t order a kids meal and just thought Qantas were serving kids first.

So I wait a bit and when FA handing those meals out came back next I stopped her and asked her my sons meal was. Response was it wasn’t loaded, sorry too bad so sad. I said umm I think you will find you gave it to the girl in the row opposite, FA says no that’s their meal. The mother of the girl pipes up holding the foil with sticker on it and says no it belongs to his son. The look in the FA’s face was priceless.

She says she will see if she can find a “spare” which obviously they didn’t find. His only option was a normal adult meal or nothing. “Luckily” my son is 6 and has some adult tastes so he was happy to have an adult meal, but it annoyed me no end how they could mess something like that up when the name and seat number is on a printed sticker. And I know Thais have strange names (my wife is one) but never heard of a Thai girl named Alexander so clearly the FA wasn’t even checking the sticker, saw a kid and handed it over.

The same FA was rather sour to everyone through the main meal service, seemed like she didn’t want to be there, it got to the point that I went and spoke to the CSA about her attitude. The CSA gave me her business card and told me to make a formal complaint and mention I spoke to her about it.

A week later I got a call from a crew manager about what happened and found 10,000 points in my account. And not sure if related but on my next flight I got upgraded.

The crew can always have my share. I stopped eating QFi J meals these days as they’re not appetising at all. I just make sure I eat up at the lounge. Exception is extra long haul or flying from DPS where the lounge option is worse.
