Recent Amex Edge - bonus points not posting (discussion & post success/failure)

I referred Mrs Mac for Edge on 24 Jan and my 10k points posted before card arrived. Mrs Mac held a Velocity Platinum until June last year. Min spend on Edge met on 29 Jan and her 15k bonus points posted immediately. Mrs Mac referred a friend on 2 Feb (who also previously held Velocity Platinum) and Mrs Mac received 10k points for referral immediately. Friend referred his wife on Feb 10 and received 10k points for referral immediately. However, neither friend or friends wife have received their 15k bonus points, both hit min spend over a week ago. The thing I find interesting is that in T&C if a person is not eligible under 18 month rule, neither the referee or new cardholder should get points.i understand that this was largely ignored by AMEX in the past, now it seems that even if new cardholder isn't eligible and misses out, the referee still gets their points.

I hold a Qantas Amex Ultimate card, and applied for the Platinum Edge in mid-February. I met the qualifying spend last weekend and all the charges have now processed, but no bonus point have credited.

Based on the experience of others, I have accepted that I won't get the bonus points. What about the annual fee waiver in the first year - has anyone with an existing Amex credit card applied under the current referral offer (with no annual fee in the first year), and been charged the annual fee?

Yep I agree, still in the unknown category, but if I was applying for a card with a big bonus say the Charge, I'd probably hold off until there was some more clarity around that. If it is just for the Edge, and you are planning on making use of the cards benefits anyway, then it matters a lot less.

The charge is the only one you should attempt as an existing AMEX credit card holder as the card is now classified as a different product. The terms and conditions were relaxed somewhat a few months back, meaning that any existing credit card holders who haven't held a charge card produce issued by AMEX are still eligible for the bonus points. Best sign up offer is via Point Hacks at the moment, with an exclusive 120k point offer (higher than referral offers)

once you activate your new plat egde card is there a waiting period before you can use your own referral link to refer others? if using wife's url referral link one keeps on getting this error " Sorry, there was an error in accessing the application. Please try again using the link provided in your original offer." i wonder what could be wrong?

In my experience was the card is activated you should be able generate (and someone else use) your referral link.

If you are still having the problem it may pay to try using the link in another browser- just in case you're suffering some wired browser caching issue.

Good luck - hope you get it sorted soon

I have just been approved and are waiting for my Edge. I had to give up my Discovery card to apply and happily did, so if I get the bonus points well and good. If not it doesn't really matter, the card is good value anyway.

Bluey , I used you referral link ( after that excellent story you told on the Edge), so hope you get some points too!

Consider to get a new edge while holing an EXP card..I don't care the welcome but hoping annual fee waived for the first year. More data point is needed for new edge holders.

I reckon you'll be right to get the annual fee-free first year, but my opinion is just based on what happened last year - during a similar offer - AMEX may well have changed their systems (equally they may not of). Worth a shot though - for such a high earning card (assuming you spend a reasonable amount at the supermarket and on petrol).

If the annual fee free first year didn't happen you could always cancel with the first month or two and you should get the fee refunded anyway.

Good luck with your application if you decide to go ahead!

Had an explorer since Sept 16, applied for edge ~4wks ago.
got the annual fee waived, got the $200 flight credit but no bonus points.

Got the rewards programmed linked which is huge "bonus" for me, more so than the 15k free.

am a happy customer :D

Brilliant - whilst I wouldn't hold out for the bonus points (AMEX usually credit these quickly) the T&C's for the latest round of offers do say the points may take 8-10 weeks to credit - so I suppose one could get lucky.

lol I post the above and check my online staetement and just noticed this, never seen before! guess I did get very very lucky
A little "+" & "-" symbol.

Once expanded shows 15,000 refer a friend bonus, which is actually 20k. Guessing the 15k must be the signon bonus instead, activated the edge on 8/3/17.

Nice!

That is exactly what I would have expected to have happened. Referred Friend Bonus - is indeed the 15k sign-on points bonus.

Enjoy!

Hi, just thought I'd say that I used a referral link from the referral page here on aff to get this amex Edge card while I still had the amex Velocity Escape card. I did the minimum spend, got the $200 travel credit (which i've already used) but never got the signup bonus points either. oh well fair enough. The edge is still a good points earn card.

Out of interest what date did you submit on?

I ask as we are currently collect date on who has/has not gained a sign-on bonus post 31JAN2017 when they are hold another Amex CC (Later on we might also look if they are applying the 18 month rule).

Yep this is the key thing - I don't think there are enough data points at the moment, but it does appear as though the referral bonus points are taking longer to credit (if nothing else).

The more data points the better :)

G'day lovetravellingoz, I just searched my records and I applied somewhere between the 2nd -12th Feb 2017, I used the card for the first time on the 13th Feb where I hit the minimum spend in one purchase.

I'm applying next week so I will report back some time in April when I'm back in the country.

Update: applied and received the card. Paid a bill and received the bonus 15000 the next day. I made sure I cancelled my previous edge a month before and didn't have any other current amex card on the go. Maybe the blank slate is one way to get around the 18-month ban but as with love and life ymmv.
