The regulations are very strict on who can fix an aircraft and its fixtures. Even the simple act of changing a soiled seat cover, which although can be done by crew during inflight, still need an engineer to sight it and sign it off on landing complete with documentation for it.

it's good to have the background explanation... but others watching the show don't have that benefit... and the voiceover could have easily provided that in 3 seconds.

without the explanation it kinda makes the crew look inept. It wasn't even 'fixing' the aircraft... the small round knob a passenger uses to slide the latch had come undone (or that's what the crew seemed to indicate). it looked as simple as tightening the screw.
 
mostly inoffensive and PR friendly ep last night - had a good chuckle at the Ops Centre staff fully decked out in the cabin crew uniforms though

but mixed messages as well. The QF 7 crew were being mentioned as having 'just a few short breaks', implying that even though they have been up for 20+ hours, are exhausted and tired, they are still smiling.

the reality is that they have plenty of time to sleep, which is preferable, as they will be alert for any emergency during landing.

Something that is also heavily regulated - and they have some nice hidden flat bunks to rest in (will be interesting to see if they decide to show crew rests)
 
Well I enjoyed this episode.

Can't believe how co-operative all the passengers with alcohol-related issues were!
 
I think the show is becoming a drinking game?
Qantas.... Skull..... Qantas.... Skull.... Etc
Looks like a good show by the end ;)
 
Better ep than last week. How disintetested did the QF7 crew look during the CSMs briefing?!
The problem with this show is they dont have much actual drama happening so theyre forced to try to make routine decisions dramatic. That medical emergency was routine to the point of being dull but they made as though an engine was on fire!

I don't think that cabin crew usually clap at the end of a crew bri
 
The entire preflight briefing appeared to be highly manufactured and artificial.

Anyone notice that when 1000 sector JM sat in his OPUP J seat the headrest cushion almost fell off?

I actually prefer these other airline shows:

Dear Qantas, what qualifications are required to get a job removing S**t from an aircraft?
Missed that subject \work experience in school...
Did learn how to get p**ssed though for future J flights ;)!
 
On a side not.... No airline in Australia has its own meteorologist..... But hey lets not let facts get in the way of a story!!!
 
I like to bet that a lot of AFFers have drunk a lot more (in the F lounge) prior to boarding than the poor lady offloaded...I wouldn't have got off without more fuss;)
 
Just finished watching the episode on catchup. I guess ill keep my mouth shut next time about no adds, they just never ended!!!!

Yep also noticed the headrest for JM was somewhat broken.

SOme of the stuff did look manufactured. Crew briefing, issue with toilets.
Was interesting and ill keep watching but probably cause im a QF enthusiast more than anything

Again, haven't seen the episode so not sure in what context this was presented, but in our IOC we do have people from the BoM.
 
Airlines liaise with BOM which is a separate independent identity... Contacts yes but NOT employed by Qantas!
 
Lady was booze and drugs or fair assessment that their was an issue..... Getting upset would have recreated esp 1!

AFF member PLANT may indeed be 'wrong' twice, but bearing in mind the famous saying in Australian political history about 'two...don't make...', which airlines employ meteorologists as distinct from simply liaising with the BOM or private enterprise experts in the field such as long range weather forecasters?

An explanation would be helpful to PLANT.

And are they employees at each of these airlines - or just contractors?

I assume given the huge costs to airlines of weather-related delays, employing a meteorologist may be very cost effective if somehow they can reduce delays, cancellations and so on.

I have only seen one episode of this 'reality' television show - far too many advertisements, and some of the show looks very staged, with melodramatic scenes adding to the strong impression that QF has contributed financially to it.

Just one long blurb for this airline. As with the earlier Tigerair show, in the end the jury remains out as to whether it is a good idea for transport and logistics companies to feature themselves and their staff in such shows. The Tigerair one, in the end, was a PR disaster with subsequent owner VA and its shareholders such as EY, NZ and SQ having to invest much time and effort to try to alter passenger perceptions of the TT brand: the QF one has a few episodes to run so it is too early to make a call.
