Check in at Brisbane airport this morning.
Sixteen people in quick check line at Qantas Club Check In, one counter open for bag drop.
Four people in line for normal check in at Qantas Club Check In one counter open.
I think Qantas might need to look at this if they really are serious about passengers using Quick Check. Maybe more bag drop counters open so that you are not at a time disagvantage using them.

If they want to convince me to ever use it, they need to allow access to the exit rows on the SSCI

DJ's "Blue Check" is much better than QF's "Quick Check" when you're travelling with bags. I find the QF system to be no better than lining up and checking you bags through (obviously not at peak times when you have to line up for half an hour). Without bags, obviously they're both a better option

Sometimes it's quicker. If I'm checking luggage, I always check the length of the QP line before deciding on quickcheck. If I'm not checking luggage, it's straight through to the QP to quickcheck up there.

On the same theme; if the Business Class/QC check in line is not horrendous, then I always use that in preference to the desk in QC itself, where the line seems to get longer and longer.

Hell, on rare occasions the Economy queue is shorter than QC, and then I use that. Basically, I don't think there is much difference in the actual transaction time, so I just go where the queue is shortest.

Also, I like to get to know the service desk staff, and Qantas is cutting enough jobs without mechanising even more people out of work.

Is that true, that they don't allow access to exit rows via the QANTAS QuickCheck system?

I haven't used it now - I won't ever use it if this is the case.

If it wasn't true, I wouldn't have said it

Couldn't you check in via Quickcheck and in the QP ask about moving to an exit row?

May not work. But if the line to checkin was horrendous then I would be wanting to at least try...

quick check

At Brisbane airport myself, husband and 2 kids were waiting patiently in the incredibly long checkin line when I was approached by a Qantas staff member to use quick check. I informed her that as our bookings were not linked and some of us were travelling on FF points, one of us had a paid seat and the other was an infant I would prefer to wait in the line and do a manual checkin in case the quick check didn't like our booking. The persuasive (read - "pushy") staff member insisted we would have no problem and we should transfer to the quick check line. Surprise surprise when we finally had the chance to use the "technology" it informed us that it could not prosess our booking meaning we would have to rejoin the original line that we were in which had now gotten even longer. Of course that staff member was nowhere to be seen when I wanted to let my feelings known to her later. I will not be using quick check again.

Absolutely, this works if there is a seat available (main problem if there's a hold up through security that someone else snaps them up in the meantime)

I for one are happy that the exit rows are not available on QuickCheck. Safety issues aside regarding suitability of people sitting in exit rows, I don't want someone who doesn't care where they sit accidentally grabbing it!

That's really poor. Sorry to hear you got such a bad deal. I would have been tempted to join a short J queue after that and insist they process you. You should not be penalised (put to the back of the queue) for their error.

Returning from CNS on Wed arvo there were 18 check-in counters available but only a mere 2 opened - one being the QP. (I know there's no Quick Check at CNS - nothing happens quickly up there!)

Anyhoo, I'm No.2 in the QP line to a woman with child toting about 4 bags who were not progressing their check-in at any pace. A few minutes later another 4 adults with 2 kids pressed past me to join the WWC to complete the happy family. HOW RUDE says I. Then they all had to label their luggage/find ID etc etc.

I had to make a quick lunge through this mess to beat another lady from the commoners line to get myself checked and consequently QP'd.

You'd have guessed that this entourage later turned up in the small QP. Where are the guest standards????

Qantas are really pushing thier Q-C system; I have not had a close look yet but it appears the old special quue at MEL domestic for QP members is now a bulk Q-C counter.

I'm quick checking in MEL last Wednesday; myself and mrs serfty. We had different PNR's, albeit linked.

Obtained two adjacent machines and swiped my card; only showed my seat allocation. Swiped mrs serfty's QP card in the adjacent Q-C and it showed her seat allocated next to mine; grabbed both as per pre-allocation since no better seat combination was showing available.

As BP's were being printed a Q-C staff member came up tried to be helpful; eventually saw we had things under control and pointed to a bag-drop queue with about 30 people lined up. I pointed out to her the WP markings on my BP and asked if there was a reason I had to use that particular queue; of course not, so we strolled to the empty bag-drop location at the original MEL "Quick Check with Bags" counter, 'dropped' our bags then went through.

What annoys me is the slow ones that feel the need to use Quickcheck.
I seem to always have slow users hogging them such as the technology illiterate people who want to see if they can check their lotto numbers on it or something.

A few weeks ago at the bag drop counter (2 were open at the time) I stood there for over 10min while the couple with two kids that have decided to take everything but the kitchen sink with them on their holiday........and the other person didn't know if he was coming or going.
I felt like saying..."you do know this is called 'QUICK'Check for a reason"

Generally I like it and use it, but seem to be constantly obstructed by "slowcheck" people.

Well, in my recent travels, I have used all three types of check-in: normal counter, QuickCheck (no baggage) as well as QuickCheck with Bag Drop.

If you want to control where you sit, then QuickCheck is the answer. Yes, the negative is that you can't access exit row or bulkhead.

But if the queues are long (where Y, QC or J lines), then QuickCheck can be a blessing.

Just don't expect to win anything from the promotion at present. 4 from 4 have been 10% discounts when I buy $30 or more in books from the Newslink stand in the QP. Sorry, that doesn't interest me...I have enough to read as it is...
