Questions re "refurbed" First Class on Qantas 747

Serfty, is the AFF discount available each year, or only the first year?

Each and every year - but it needs to be organised before the automatic renewal fires.

If you have an appropriate AFF membership level, just PM "support" about a month before the renewal is due.

Hi all,

I am a fairly regular traveller between SCL and SYD on the QF 747's, and a few times a year it is one of the older ones with the F seating up front. I know that one of these was recently given a facelift in the F section, and I was wondering if there is any way in advance that I can see which 747 I will be on?

For example, am flying QF27 this Tuesday SYD-SCL and from the seatmap it is one of the old two. I have selected seat 3K. It is the most private IMHO.

But is there any way to see if it is the refurbed cabin?

Thanks in advance for any assistance - I am FULLY aware that in less than 48 hrs I will find out anyway, and as such this is a frivolous thread, but anyway...... :)

I do this flight 3 or 4 times a year also juddles. Next on June 14, also showing 747 with the F cabin. Coincidentally, also snagged 3K.

Would like it to be the refurb cabin.

Can others confirm which of the two has the refurb cabin? Is it OEB or OJM?

I'll look closer to the date to see where they are.

Have looked at Flightradar24 (am new to that so really dont understand what i am looking at) but it appears that OEB got back from SCL today at 1753hrs. And the last info for OJM was that it got back from SCL on the 20th May. Others would be able to intrepret what this means far better than me.

Likewise as at now (1840hrs 22nd May BNE time), expertflyer still shows seatmaps for non-refurb 747's for tomorrows flights QF27 SYD-SCL and QF63 SYD-JNB. So I guess it is still a lottery ?

If you're trying to follow what aircraft are running what routes, check out Qantassource website. It tracks all the aircraft by rego or route etc.

Dang! It is looking like being OJM :(

I will attempt to "enjoy" the old first seats in a reminiscing way of yesteryears. Maybe that will cheer me up.

But I doubt it.

Drowning my sorrows in champagne in the Flounge as I await boarding. Maybe if I have enough champas it will FEEL like a revitalised cabin?

That's a shame!

If it's any consolation, that plane will be retired probably within a few months. So it could well be the last time you "get" to fly in one of those old F seats!

Waiting in the QF F lounge Sydney for QF27 and I see OEB pull up to the gate. Refurb F cabin, lucky me! :D

juddles, you didn't miss much. Only re-clothed seats and pod linings. All rather cheaply done. Apart from that, no changes.

Most disappointing part was the cabin was filthy. Dirt, crumbs everywhere. Several commented on it. I made a mentioned to the crew. Not as if it was a quick turnaround either. The plane had completed QF26 the previous day.

This seemed the most appropriate thread to note it,

Report on YSSY that the non-refreshed 747 VH-OJM is off to Victorville on 30-Jul

No 9 are refurbed.

VH-OEB was refreshed. So it's got the new black seats in the old F cabin. It will seemingly hang around until at least Mar-2018 when it goes out on charter for a period

VH-OEB was delivered in Jun-93 (to Asiana, before coming to QF 5 yrs later), whereas OJM is much older being a Sep-91 delivery direct to QF

Yet again miss out on the lottery - tomorrow am flying SYD-SCL again and from what i can work out from flightaware, again I will be on OJM.

But I just did some research and according to aussieairliners.org, VH-OJM is somewhat special.

It has flown 113,546 hours making it the highest time aircraft in Qantas history

Interesting comment.

I am not "big-noting" myself, but I fly a hell of a lot - many airlines and around much of the world. But the filthiest cabins I have ever come across are those OJM / OEB flights!! Maybe there is a technical issue? I don't know.

I love the old 747's, but they are not clean. If I remember I will take a couple of photos this trip to demonstrate this....
