I think i know the answer but wanted to confirm to make sure since some of the other posts i read were from 2013. IM putting this here as its about QFF status and EK flights. Feel free to move if needed. Apologies if this is covered in other threads i couldnt find anything recent

Im currently a QC NB and planning to be a QC PS by end of november if i can get my act together and book some status runs (hoping to be targeted by a double SC offer i hear was floating around)

So in Dec im booked on some flights from HK to Dubai on EF metal with EK flight number.
So my understanding is that:
- since the flights are EK only and post 1 Oct i dont have access to HK lounges.
- Lounge access is cut after 1 october on EK only flights its not a case if you booked prior to you have access but its simply cut
- since i will be PS i do have access to those benefits so 12KG luggage, priority seating and checkin.
- I can still earn QF points on the EK flight only at an earn rate of 50%.

Something i am unsure about is
- QF PS status is it treated the same as EK PS status?
According to the EK site EK PS have lounge access in Dubai. http://www.emirates.com/au/english/skywards/about/membership-tiers/membership-benefits.aspx
According to QF website QP's have access to Dubai lounge until 1 Oct. http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/air...ness-lounge/global/en?loungeCategory=qcLounge
So would i have access at either HK or Dubai for Ek lounges? Doesnt sound like i have QF access.
- Do EK do seat pre-selection for QF PS's (or any status)? Their website talks about how Qantas charges for pre selection and talks more about domestic QF flights.
- Simiarly to QF website is it better to add my QFF number once i get the status to ensure the benefits (however minimal they are) are recognised.

Please let me know if im wrong or on the right track.

EF metal with EK flight #???????
That will earn you no QF SC mate!
You need QF flight # to earn QF SC... to climb up to QF PS.
EK PS, don't know so can't say.

Yeah that was my bad wording. but i was trying to get across it wasnt a code share.
Right about the SC's i see that now. I will likely only get points Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas & Partner Airlines - Flying with Partner Airlines - Earning Qantas Points
I am hoping to climb to QF PS before my SYD to HK and subsequent HK to Dubai trip.

EK PS would be good to confirm. Its my last string of hope at this point.

QF PS status is treated independently of EK PS status. You won't get a benefit of the EK status if it isn't a QF PS benefit as they are two totally different things according to EK.

As QF PS you do get priority boarding (same as gold) at EK check-in counter, which is nice. But no lounge access I don't think, you don't get that with QF either.

Maybe look at getting EK or OW status rather than QF, given the changes QF is making to the lounge access including domestic.

Can you confirm what these changes are regarding domestic lounge access?

My guess would be they removing F lounge for their Dom flights leaving international terminals

Given the demise of the SYD-MEL JQ35 leg and QF8 going DFW-SYD non-stop, what Dom legs of International flight will there be?...even assuming this is the supposed changes...

BD

I was thinking changes to qantas club, so may not apply to you if you don't have it - From 1 Oct you can only get in the lounge if on a QF/Jetstar flight. So if you have a Qantas Club membership but flying on Emirates you won't be able to get into the lounge in Dubai, for ex, or even in the local lounge when leaving Australia.

See the other thread for details: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....am/qantas-removes-lounge-access-qp-61624.html

Gold/Plat status would be fine I think though, sorry to have alarmed you.
Though if EK Silver gets lounge, then you may need to work out how long it'd take to get that compared to QF Gold, for ex.

Correct me if I am wrong, but that has nothing to do with domestic lounge access?

it does, you can't access domestic lounge if not flying QF/jetstar, same as international. Unless I completely misread the following, for Qantas Club membership:

"To enjoy access to domestic and international lounges for travel from 1 October 2014, you need to have a Qantas or Jetstar flight number on your ticket for your onward flight. As with all our other airline partners, this change means that as a Qantas Club member you need to book a QF flight number to access Qantas and Partner lounges when travelling in Economy on Emirates."
Eligibility and Access to The Qantas Club Lounges | Qantas

No impact on gold/plat access though.

Can you explain how - today - QP members could access a domestic lounge if not flying Qantas or Jetstar flight number.

thought it was available for EK flights. But I got my membership just 6 weeks ago, so hadn't had time to check that out. No worries if that was never the case anyway, then.

So back to the OP's question, need to figure out which membership gives easier lounge access, EK or QF or another oneworld.

Also:
Do EK do seat pre-selection for QF PS's (or any status)? Their website talks about how Qantas charges for pre selection and talks more about domestic QF flights.

not sure what you mean by pre-selection, last time I flew (no EK status) I could manage my booking and select my seat. Maybe you get more choice with more status, I don't know. But that was free.

thought it was available for EK flights.

The only time I can think that a domestic QP is currently available for an EK flight is ADL. But that's due to the unique nature of the ADL QP acting for both Dom and International.

Regards,

BD

And the only disadvantage of the ADL QP is that you need 1 hr or maybe for the EK flight 45 mins to pass int sec and then passport control.
If I had a mind, I would have thought that QP being outside int sec suits them cancelling int flights from ADL!

Just following up on this
So as a qf SG I couldn't access the priority boarding.
Went and asked and was told they are only recognizing skywards members.

As I don't have it for qf not a big deal. But WP & SG might be annoyed.
Or is everyone else's experience different for priority boarding on ek with qf status.

Do you mean to say that they denied priority boarding to you as a Qantas Gold? That's clearly against the policy.

HKG-DXB is not a route that you have any QF flight numbers on EK metal so you will find anyone flying it with QF status will not get status recognized by EK in any shape or form.

Likewise SYD-PVG doesn't have a EK flight number on it, and if and when I fly Qf129/130 I don't get any recognition as an EK Platinum.

You need to be flying on a flight number that matches your status to get that status recognized.

EK status on QF flight number or QF status on EK flight number will never get any status recognition, just miles earned.

I am not a gold. But am a silver.
But it was implied that only skyward members can priority board. Not qantas regardless of status
The priority boarding sign just says platinum gold and silver
