I am newly registered here and interested in understanding QF's oneworld classic award. The amount of collective knowledge in this forum is just unbeleivable and I hope to learn heaps.

I struggle to understand the logic behind QF's oneworld award rule, which allows 5 stopovers. The issue is in that this particular award table has 10 zones, so how can it be that 5 stopovers are allowed in zone 1 (for up to 1200 miles of travel), equally as in zone 10 (for up to 35000 miles of travel).

It seems that higher you go up in the table, less value you are getting out of the stopovers rule. It would be more logical if the number of allowed stopovers would increase with higher zones.

Besides, what difference does it make to QF and other participating carriers in the oneworld award if a person were to use unlimited number of stopovers, so long as the sum of individual sectors doesn't exceed the maximum permitted mileage in the relevant zone of travel?

Welcome to AFF!

I guess you have a valid point but Oneworld needed to draw the line somewhere.

The Oneworld Explorer (continent based) allows upto to 15 stopovers so I guess there had to be some restriction on the Oneworld award version. In my opinion 5 stopovers seems to be a decent compromise and I would struggle most times to use all the stopovers unless I was trying to maximise the sectors used.
