QFF's partner EK (Emirates) will stop flying into and out of ADL

many don't like connections, specially on the 737's but.. more SC's for those on revenue fares :)

What I don't like about connections is the extra 4 (at least) hours it adds to what is already a loooooong journey. Not worth the extra 20 SCs to me. YMMV. But my last 2 int trips ex ADL were on SQ anyway. Before the pandemic SQ had introduced a better timetable ex ADL for onward connections to Europe in the northern summer, so fingers crossed they bring that back post pandemic.

Isnt this the problem with partner / code sharing? They always claim they wont cancel routes etc but inevitably do.

To be fair, they've not cancelled the route.

I'm not sure if anyone specifically has the info to hand, but it's been some time now since EK has landed in Adelaide as a result of the current environment.

SQ has been seen maybe a dozen times in Adelaide over the past 3-4 months now and they were previously daily - and realistically are now only here due to subsidised freight. Likewise with CX, they're sending a 777 to Adelaide from SYD filling it's belly and then off it goes.

Mind you, as mentioned, the 777 into Adelaide compared to the A330s of CX and MH and the A350s of SQ and QR isn't exactly great...

Ok, i am just a bit sensitive about it :) as I hated how Emirates and Thai airways both reduced direct flights out of Sydney to Bkk and basically Emirates expected people to just book the Qantas flights.

I live in Adelaide, but last year I flew EK out of Melbourne so I could get the morning A380 flight to DXB in J using FF points. Not much point going on it during the night, as I was able to sit up at the bar and partake of coughtails with other flyers. Way to go I say.

Did you have the leave ADL the previous day?

I did spend a few mins in tbe F loo, no, no shower

At the least, we got our kicks in the F loo/shower, (not together, mind you)

And there are people like me who had never been on a EK first bathroom, and now that all the A380s in the world are being retired.

I hope you could say to us that you, at least, cough in there, cos otherwise, why did you take that flight???!!!

Unlike the “analy-retentive” bathrooms on other planes where you are always worried of getting your pants wet from the floor if you sit down, and can’t actually have enough room to do so, or swing a cat, the bathroom on EK F 380 makes you feel comfortable and feel happy you’ve spent the money or points to book F.

Just wonderful to use even if you don’t use the shower.

Only way to travel! :)

Nope, no cough, I avoid eating too much in the lounge before a flight, either!
I precrap a thousand times in the hotel the night before departure, and shut my bowels, prepee at the airport too.
Itsty bits eat and drink on the plane, always say no to extra grog, though must admit some love to be plied with plane grog.
Ahem, yes, I did do the pee once that 380, that is why I went in there, is that a banned word?
Was in 1K, had the F cabin nearly all to myself.
Really, its just a bouncy bathroom/loo, to be brutally honest, and also you are always on the timer, or I was, worried something might happen, and I get a knock to return to my seat.
And that F loo/shower also didn't have grab bars.
You can go to Youtube and see what the EK F shower and loos look like.

No? It has a grab rail and a seat and apart from the 3 min water timer, your time in the bathroom is unlimited, especially if you are the only one or two in F! Two ”bathrooms“ plus a spare ”toilet” at the back lhs solely for 14 pxs is a stat we like vs two “toilets” for 40 or so in J on most aircraft.

you are always on the timer

This is what would deter me from having a shower there. I need minimum 30 minutes to shower if I rush it. I only shower at a lounge if I stop at somewhere like Singapore or Hong Kong. I know there is a max time limit for the shower in first cabin, so I think it would be more trouble than it's worth.

Just turn the water off while washing private bits and hair and it’s a doddle. I always end up with a minute of water time left to luxuriate.

Sorry Pooch but I don't understand why you would deny yourself so much (Grog is one thing and to personal preference of course) but I mean food or even using the lav. It's not a micro loo on a 737! Those things I avoid like the covid plague. Horrible... but something like the front lavs on EK, SQ etc? come now. I guess that's a personal thing but it seems a bit strange to me. Each to their own.

It just seems funny you had the cabin almost to yourself but worried about time in there? There's two of the suites. If you were in there for 45 minutes they may knock out of concern for your wellbeing but goodness me.. Even when using the shower you get 30 minutes booked for you to you know.. do al you want. (shower flow can be paused to shampoo or condition hair etc) and there's a lot of spa products and fancy stuff for people to use, or they may want to dry hair, make up etc so the crews are used to people being in there.

And one other nifty little feature of the EK bathrooms that is way over the top? The floor is warmed! I mean absurd right but gee how nice is it.. such a simple luxury imo... you wouldn't think of it but it makes a difference at 40k feet imo.

Even tho SQ did not go the shower route on their 380's in the new F setup on the upper deck that use those same bathroom spaces the loo is just as nice with a table, makr up area and very pleasant space to do your.. business lol.

Such a far cry from the rest of the plane (the EK 380 J lavs are pretty small and basic back there at the rear) and well Y.. no I have never been down there but can imagine :)

Speaking of EK and 380's they are bringing more and more back online so the era is not quite dead yet. I am sure there will be other chances to enjoy it.

IMO

That sucks.

I mean that's what I was doing when we were in water restriction last year, and that's what I do whenever I'm in North Korea, but for first class? I would rather have unrestricted shower at the lounge in Singapore.

Having said that, I could see a reason for having a shower on the plane: It's useful for having a shower when you have a tight transfer at somewhere really hot e.g. Singapore / Hong Kong.

But the terminal is airconditioned. You may still end up hot and sweaty if running for your connecting flight though...

Don't forget that, you would already be soaked, by the time you get to check in counter, in places like Singapore or Hong Kong, or in London in summer.

I had this problem before, especially that I cannot deal with heat. I flew from Beijing last Oct, and had to beg the lounge staffs at Wuhan or Xi'an (can't remember which one) last year for a 10 min shower during stop over. I had 10 mins at the lounge, and the staffs were like 'you only have 10 mins to gate opening" and I had to beg so hard. Having a shower on the plane would really help.

Granted I didn't spend a lot of time in the F loos on those trips Au - NZ vv.
Didn't notice grab bar.
Edit: no sign of the EK & QF code share SYD - CHC flight on the QF website, checked for up to Jun 2021.
Hope the 380 is brought back on that route, though I thought I read they were using the 777ER again on that route.
Have flown on that one in J.
Ok, thanks everyone.
Hope that EK & QF will bring back Au - NZ code share flights soon.
**Edit**, EK website does list the SYD - CHC flight, J and F, but its not showing on the QF website, so earn rate will be low, flying that route as a QFF on a pure EK flight number.
Probably a good way to see that 380 again, not sure if this is with the travel bubble Au - NZ or not.
