Hi Guys,

Just after some knowledge please, I have been reading the T&C’s here;

Frequent Flyer Terms and Conditions | Qantas

and getting confused. I had a QFF reward booking, 4 tickets, Qantas business to Narita on the18/12/18 which I have flown and have return home with Jetstar via Cairns on the 11/1/19, which Qantas put under the one booking. I am keen to cancel the Jetstar flight via Cairns and book something else home, does anyone know if this booking would be refundable with the 6,000 fee per ticket? the flight is not until 8.55pm on the 11th. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

If it is a classic award (not points + pay) then the return leg should be refunded less the 6000 points. Not sure if there is a cancellation window. Best way os to call QF asap if you want to make changes to this.

I read it as non refundable:
14.9.2 Once any travel has commenced on a Classic Flight Reward, the Reward is considered used, even if the remaining travel is not completed. Points will not be re-credited to the Member's account for unused ticket coupons.

Yes - but a ticket can be a series of classic flight rewards - a return being two, each treated separately?

If this is not the case, seems wise to always book two separate tickets. Appreciate the fees and charges can be more in this case, but seems wise insurance.

I took it as a single booking comprising four sectors, in which case non refundable.
Perhaps the OP Dan can clarify.

The only changes permitted later than 24 hours before the first segment in a booking are date and time - and cannot be done within 24 hours of each segment.
14.7.9 The following changes are not permitted to any Classic Flight Reward within 24 hours before departure from the point of origin of the first Flight Segment on the Itinerary:

(a) change to class of travel;
(b) change to any Segment routing or airline; and
(c) change to name (only for Flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number on the ticket that are operated by Qantas).

14.7.10 No changes will be permitted on qantas.com to any Classic Flight Reward within 24 hours before departure of each Flight Segment on the Itinerary.

But cancellation can be done any time before the start of travel.

I tried to change an award flight and once you’ve started there are no changes

Thanks everyone, the terms had me in two minds as well, as some of you had read them. I have only just got back in from skiing however doubt I will get through to the call centre in time, I am on hold now. The tickets were booked direct SYD-KIX on QF in J and the return is KIX-CNS-SYD in Y. I noticed in the booking, through manage my booking in Qantas, that the Jetstar flights have a different booking reference number than the Qantas flights already flown had.

Not quite true - the rules changed a little of the last year or three.

Changes once can be made for a change fee but only if you keep the same route, carrier and class. See above 14.7.10

To clarify, if you have an outbound and return, you can't change the return ticket once you have commenced the outbound? That is inconsistent with the QF rules which state you can change each segment up to 24 hours prior to the operation of that segment (as per Serfty's post above). .

Can I ask a possibly stupid question as I haven't done this before. I am booked on BA31 LHR-HKG this coming week in J as an award and have just noticed there is now stacks of availability on CX.

If I cancel the BA booking and rebook on CX am I right in saying the original points will be refunded (minus 6000) PLUS the full amount of taxes refunded in cash?

The CX product is obviously superior and the taxes are over 100 pounds less so a win win if I can quickly swtich...

You are correct but I would be making sure you have the CX before you cancel the BA - I would wear whatever it cost to do this with the call centre and tell them not to cancel the BA until CX has ticketed. Do you have any points or can someone transfer you some to cover having both at once

Thanks - I've got plenty of points so can book CX first but was going to do online to avoid extra call centre fees.

Have you also checked LGW for availability?
Comes down to personal preference and award availability but I do prefer CX J on their A350 over the 777 but not sure if they run the A350 from LHR or only LGW still.
