QFF Points & Pay versus just points

I am having trouble understanding the advantage of QFF Points & Pay.

As an example Points & Pay Business Class Return Syd to Perth on their first flights out is 354,505 pts!!!!!


Using just points is 72,000 on the same flights.

I just don't get that ...........am I missing something.

Can you pay the additional fees/taxes etc in cash or points.

Points + Pay is poor value IMHO, I find the best way to get value is check the classic awards for availability then look at an JASA, they are around the classic level + $200 or 84K of points.
