Anybody had any experience of their points NOT being deducted from their QFF account after making an online award booking? Thereby allowing the points to be 'used twice'???

regards,

regards,

The points are deducted when the ticket is issued - this is often well after the booking is made, usually two to three weeks before the date of travel. I have had points deducted 6 MONTHS after I made the booking, so you can expect the deduction to happen eventually.

Hands up all those who think "Gordon" will be frantically calling QF to cancel some award bookings?

Agree with Dave & Scott, although most of the time the points are deducted at time of booking, some are only deducted when you check-in for the flight and the U or X seat is allocated. Don't know whether QFF computer system shows "pending point" to ensure that you don't try to overbook Award Point redemptions; but I've never tried (still trying to spend them all, as much as I spend, I get allocated)

Are you saying, that Qantas are likely to CANCEL the booking when I check in on the flight day...... even though I've been issued a 'paper' ticket..... because the booking was made with points that should have been previously deducted..... and it's THEIR fault that THEY didn't remove the points from my account previously...... thereby allowing me to HONESTLY believe, that I am fully entitled to use the points that are sitting in my account???

No, if you reread what I wrote, they will deduct the points when the ticket is issued. If it invoilves an e-ticket, then the ticket will be issued almost immediately, and the points will be deducted almost immediately.

If your booking involves a paper ticket, then this takes a bit longer, and these are usually issued in order of travel date - so someone flying in three weeks will have their ticket issued before someone flying in 9 months.

And yes, it is up to you to keep track of your redemtions - you do it for your points earnings, don't you? If you have 90,000 points, and make a booking worth 50,000 points involving a paper ticket in eight months time, and then make another booking for next week also worth 50,000 points, then don't expect the first booking to be ticketted (unless you manage to top up the account in the mean time).

Oh well Gordie to prevent this happening, since you are such a responsible FF, I am sure you will be telephoning Qantas to check that you haven't spent your points twice.

Stop trying to screw the system and then allocate blame to anyone but yourself when you are caught out. :x

However I have a friend who booked a QFF award on BA ex LHR into Europe somewhen short haul for 2 pax but the points deducted were only for one pax - so their must be some manual handling in there somewhere on these type of award bookings.

In my experience with qantas they deduct the points for an award booking the same time your credit card is charged ... if you've made bookings online you'll notice you dont get charged the day you make the booking (unless you're travelling in the next few days) ..

oh..hang on... do they have any staff left to process this ??

To my 'fans' out there..... I never stated I was out to "screw" the system!

I'm simply asking what experience people have had with events that could be considered 'computer errors'. I was wondering if Qantas has such errors all the time, or my experience was not common. Does that make me Mr. Evil?

Was this a topic nobody wanted to hear about perhaps?

Hell, I'd better not knock ANZ bank anymore...... the shareholders will be after me next!

Gordon, your opening to this thread was innocuous, but your second post was considered by apparently a few members as accusing Qantas of initially making a mistake:

THEIR fault that THEY didn't remove the points from my account previously

however, if you had read Dave, Scott's and my replies carefully, most members here I'm sure could have understood our messages. It then turned into something that most of us QFF's would not do..try to dupe Qantas (not that you would have been able to get away with it, but that is the first way to get us osffside on this site)

Hell, I'd better not knock ANZ bank anymore...... the shareholders will be after me next!

Indeed they would...BTW, hope you got the Guest Passes

Qantas frequent flyer points not deducted

So what do I do now? (can't bear the thought of waiting ages on phone line to QFF). Two weeks ago I booked an award flight on phone and gave credit card details for taxes and was quoted number of points needed. I received itinerary by email. I have heard no more. Nothing has been taken from my account. The points are not reduced. It doesn't seem to me that I hold a ticket. The booking appears in "My Bookings" on internet profile. Should I ring them and ask for E ticket or just turn up with copy of my itinerary? Maybe someone else has had a similar experience and will be able to help. Many thanks in advance :?: :)

I'm bound to get burned one day, but I never take anything on paper when travelling on an e-ticket.....

Your award flight will be an e-ticket, unless you specifically requested a paper ticket (and paid extra for it), or if it's an intnerational run to places that don't do e-tickets. Just keep your itinerary from QF and turn up at the airport - all will be sweet. The points WILL come out of your account.

Worry not, just enjoy the flight.

Thank you very much for your reply. I am not a very experienced FF as I don't earn many points to redeem. However I am excited about this one as it was a special offer of half points to Tassie and I got one! I just didn't want to get to the airport with my itinerary to be told I should produce a ticket. I will most definitely "take the flight and enjoy". Many thanks

eticket

I always check in "my bookings" on the QF website before I fly out, just to be sure its still there.

enjoy the tassie trip annarobbins, I got one myself too;)

Thanks for the reply - most certainly a good idea. I was wondering if it is common for people not to actually received an E ticket before they fly and only have the itinerary as proof of booking. :)

My booking shows up in my profile but my cc has not been charged for taxes and I have not received E ticket, just an email with itinerary. It is three weeks now since I booked. I thought the cc payment would have gone through by now and don't know if I should ring them QFF and see what is going on (you can see I definitely don't want to miss out on Tassie!) What do you think? Many thanks.

Don't worry about the lack of an "E ticket" - once the points come out & payment has been made then you should be OK. However, looking back at some past redemptions I've done the points were always deducted & payment made when I made the booking. I'd give them a call and see what is going on.

Thanks, I think I'll do that. Some other people earlier said their points weren't deducted for months but my cc hasn't had the taxes deducted either so it all seems a bit tenuous to me - even though I can see the booking in the profile.

One other thing you can do is to go into your QF FF profile and bring up your booking. Make a note of the record locator - it will be a six-digit alpha-numberic figure.

Then go to http://www.checkmytrip.com/ and anter the RLOC and your surname into the form which comes up.

Details of your booking - including any seat assignements - will come up, along with other details, including TICKET NUMBER.

This will help to assuage any doubts you may have.

It may not be there yet, as they do often take their time issuing award tickets, but it should be done as your travel date approaches.
