The wife booked a classic reward Jetstar business flight using QFF points and got a QA ticket quoting a JQ flight number.

I do realise that if she had booked a bundle max on JQ then lounge access would be included but given it is a QA ticket this was not offered.

Query - is lounge access allowed here (in MEL)?

I'm assuming you have no status or QC membership - i.e. you are hoping for lounge access on the grounds that you are travelling on business class ticket - is that correct? If so, I believe you are not entitled to lounge access if your ticket has a JQ flight number. I don't think it matters that QF issued the ticket.

The rules are a bit ambiguous for the domestic lounge, as it just refers to a "Qantas flight" - not clear if that means QF operated or QF marketed. However, it seems like your flight is neither. For the international J lounge, it has to be a QF operated flight (i.e. QF flight number).

EDIT: just remembered that JQ don't have domestic business, so I assume your flight is international.

Is this definitely the case?
I was under the impression that JQ on J max bundle allows lounge access

Yes that is correct, but in that case you are not getting access by virtue of travelling on a business class fare - you basically get a lounge pass as part of the bundle. In this case, the OP has confirmed that they do not have a max bundle included.

Just for completeness, you can also get access when flying JQ if you have relevant QF status, QC membership, or a lounge pass from a credit card provider.
