I am heading to NRT in a couple of weeks and with no availability (as per normal this time of year) on QF for the return leg (from NRT, SIN or HKG) but I can get on Y (B actually) on MH via KUL. Since it will be post 1Feb, MH will be part of OW by then, so I am confident I will earn miles & SCs.
My real questions are :
1. Will B class will earn full SCs or discount economy SCs?
2. Will I get the status accelerator when flying on MH (like you do on AA, BA, but not on CX)?

Given how close we are to MH joining OW - has anyone seen any information that might answer my questions?

I suspect only Y will earn full SC. as per QF internationals own earning.

That is not necessarily.
AA earns full Y SC on BHKY
AB on YBHKLM
BA on BHY
AY on BHKY
IB on BGHKLMNOPQSVY
LA on BGHKLMNOQSVY
RJ on BY
S7 on BHKY

I'd say there's a fair chance that MH will earn full on more than just the Y fare.

Are you sure? I am sure there is a kicker somewhere that states for SC earn only Y is deemed as full economy. Points earn different story I think

I think if at least the booking class is in full Y (ie AB,YBHKLM) you get full Y SC but discount Y SC (ie AB, VSNQG). Of course this probably differs from airline to airline but B is quite high. From the most of the airlines only Cathy Pacific and Dragonair do not provide full SC in B.

I remember thinking the same, but having had it pointed out that there is some term somewhere that states differently. I think it was one of the mods who pointed it out.

Yeah, you're right. Under the status credits earning table on the QF website (FF -> About the Program -> Status Credits) it states "For travel on oneworld Alliance airlines or Air Pacific, Economy is class Y.", so B class on MH will unfortunately only earn discount economy SCs.

Thanks for the input guys...

I suppose it's an opportunity to try out the lounges for a new carrier and see how they treat OWEs - never having had Enrich membership before. The other alternative to get home is via MNL and SYD but having been through MNL a lot, that doesn't really thrill me...

Yep, with international travel, except for a few expensive JQi fares, it's consistent that only economy travel booked in the Y fare bucket earns "full" economy SC's where SC's are earned.

FWIW, some "Premium Economy" fare buckets such as W, R & T can earn "full" economy SC's as well - often a T fare can be less than a B, H or Y fare.

I stand corrected.

I pulled those fare classes from the Airline Earning Table and Airline Partners list which lists which fares fall under economy and discount economy. I always have just thought that which ever class (discount economy or economy) was what it credited for, both SC and points. I guess I was told porkies when I called up the FF team when I enquired about how to find out how to tell which fares credited as what.

That teaches me to read the fine print closer next time.

Shouldn't all "Premium Economy" fare buckets earn full economy SCs? Unless of course you are referring to Any Seat awards.
