I haven’t ever been successful, but I never had high expectations because I was usually asking for a J seat on SIN-LHR or PER-LHR.

Would be disappointing to hear it’s got worse and they are holding back more seats for cash sales/upgrades.

is there a way to get alerts on J and F sale fares for specific routes? Do seats.aero or other services offer this?
You have much better odds of getting releases than alerts. But yes these sites can be setup for alerts. You can also set up alerts for "I booking class" again if it sells out previously. If a fare gets sold out then comes back, there's much higher odds of it becoming successful release.

1 x F SYD - JNB return, Nov 2 and Nov 14 .
1 x J MEL - NRT March 21 (requested 2x, only 1 available).
2 x J HND - SYD April 6

Have had amazing experience with the call team who put through multiple different flight options to find tickets. The JNB was lucky - could only fly on those dates, J denied but surprised me with “F available”

Rejected on a plethora of flights bne - Mel for the next 8 weeks mainly bne - Mel on Sundays and Mel- bne on wednesdays on j
Rejected same for bne - Perth.
Long haul can't get anything in March /april / may to Europe for 1 in f

Used to never been an issue till about 4 months ago.
Either loads are as full across the network as they do seem on board or another enhancement feeling

Got 3 Y bne-cbr end of July 2027. Was on a flight with 0 X for the time I wanted. Not super exciting, but nice to be able to get them, especially combined with the 30% reward discount.

Got a BNE-MEL in Y released for the % off discount too, unfortunately 3 days later it had not been ticketed so required an additional call, now ticketed.

Anyone know the Christmas holiday blackout dates? Currently trying to get seats released with I9 and business sale with no luck in mid-January across multiple routes from Australia to the US.

I requested PE and J for QF73 and QF74 several months ago but was rejected. Booked Y classic reward return that didn’t require a release. Ended up swapping QF73 over to PE then J when seats were subsequently released by QF without any request (I got alerts) and gate upgrade to PE on QF74. Could’ve saved points if they had done the releases I requested, but a great result nonetheless.

What do you use for alerts, if you don’t mind me asking? Looking at seats.aero and flightseats subscriptions, unsure which is better for Qantas alerts - my main interest.

seats.aero worked for me for this. Won’t get inventory just for high status but will show what’s available for everyone. Could’ve come home a few days later and got J but that didn’t suit.

Had same issue with the above MEL - TSV flights. Had PNR. Didn't get ticketed. Had to call again, and 2nd call centre operator "resolved an issue" to get it to ticket.
