QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

I called yesterday to request seats. Had a very casual discussion with a very experienced Hobart agent (22 years).

When it came to putting in the request, I was told that I could not request the seats as I did not have sufficient points in my account (I only had around ~1k, I was going to transfer whatever I needed in from Amex).

I mentioned that I had no issue releasing 2 U awards between LAX-SYD last week with only ~80k points in my account at the time of request (which is short of the ~216k required). I transferred the remaining points needed into my account after the request was successful and then asked them to ticket the booking.

He told me that there was a back door way that experienced agents could raise a request if there is at least enough points for the cheapest QF award (so 8,000 per passenger), but ideally the requestor should have the full amount required before requesting.

Has anyone heard of this before?

I've had that once before, but I told the agent I'd be transferring points over if the request was successful. They acknowledged that and were able to do the request. This was a good 12-18 months ago, and was from an O/S call centre.

I experienced similar yesterday and for the first time ... although usually I have enough points to cover the flights. I got a NZ agent (judging by accent) and she mentioned my lack of points but still put the request through. It was unsuccessful but she finished up by quoting the points I would need for these flights in future with a suggestion to do the transfer before the request. I thanked her but no way am I transferring Amex MRs on the off-chance.

2 x F QF 2 (LHR - SIN) 13/Jan/2025 - Approved (Manual Review); but not accepted yet

Due to general travel changes, I will have to adjust the travel within Europe, including the return date and potential end route. As I haven't accepted this yet, should I call them and reject the ticket or let it auto-expire?

Unsure if I want to try my luck and get a different route, which is after the Dec-Jan 2025/2026 blackout period.

Timing is tight with the incoming points deval/increase at the end of this month :(

How long does it take normally take for points to be deducted and the itinerary to be ticketed? And is there any difference in timing when booking for family members?

normally its pretty quick, but that's my experience through Hobart, who can do things quicker and better that other CC's can't. if you got an OS call centre it might have to then wait for ticketing to action it, particularly on a weekend it might be a day or two. if you don't have an eticket by tomorrow arvo Id call up to at least confirm its in the system and simply waiting for ticketing.
