Hmmm... did you ask for "a request to be submitted", rather than straight out request a zseat.

The premium staff need to refer the request to a 'seating' group; since about august they can no longer do it themselves.

I would call back and ask nicely again... perhaps they have not refreshed the booking with your newly minted WP status.

My most recent request was only last week where I now have 11C on a Jetconnect 734 for a flight in late July.

some things are going waaaaay over my head.
Can someone please explain WP?
And re: this seating request via Qs Premium agent...just wondering but I 'spose this is only avail to certain QFFs of certain status...not likely plebs like me on Silver:( Correct?

WP is an abbreviation used to refer to Qantas Platinum membership

If you have Platinum status, when you call the Qantas reservations you will normally get put through to a specific area called the Premium Desk who primarily handle Platinum and Chairman's Lounge members. It is automatic; once you enter your FF number on the phone , you will normally be routed there if eligable

As a Silver member, you are not likely to encounter it

Wow! Just looked on CheckMyTrip and I have been allocated 46C for MEL-LAX, 46C for LHR-HKG and 45B for HKG-SYD. Only problem I asked only for the LHR-HKG flight to be changed. :confused:

Just off the phone to QF again and restored 26H for MEL-LAX and 23B for HKG-SYD leaving 46C for LHR-HKG. The request in the PNR did say for row 46 on the LHR-HKG flight only but the operator doing the requests must have got mixed up.

Thanks QF, and thank you to all the people on this forum for their wonderful advice and past experiences on this type of request. Apart from LHR-ATH-LHR on BA and LAX-IAD on AA this now almost guarantees that I do not have to deal with serial/chronic recliners on any long haul flights on my upcoming RTW. :D I know what I will be doing in the future if I cannot get forward bulkhead pre-allocated. ;)

Normally the agent will tell you when doing the request that you will still need to meet the Emerg Exit row restrictions (sometimes they'll read them out, sometimes they'll just ask if you know them or just mention that they exist), and that they'll have to confirm them at checkin. Maybe that was what you heard?

So, as posted by Dave Noble, being a QF PS, your best best is to ask at check-in (and check-in early) if you are after exit rows.

Note that ANY pre-allocation is subject to change by QF - although it does not happen much in the case of QP WP's and when it does, it's generally caused by equipment substitutions with corresponding changes to seating layouts.

No the first agent I spoke to who entered the request was quite adamant that it was not possible to have an exit row pre-allocated by simply submitting "a request for exit row" in the PNR. I tried to explain to her that as a QF Platinum the request, if exit row is available, is normally processed by operations within the next day or so. She refused to believe that an exit row could be pre-allocated before checkin as this is where she worked before moving to the call centre. The next agent I spoke to who reversed the 2 problem flights to original allocated seats was clued up on the rules. Oh well!

Anyway at lunch time I put in another request to change SYD-SIN QF31 flight next month from 35G to row 46 aisle. A few hours ago I notice 46H has been pre-allocated. On this aircraft row 34-36 is a mini cabin and the next seats are in row 46 which is exit row. I could really start to enjoy the benefits of QF Platinum status. ;)

NorthWest which runs a similar size fleet of 747s are on average 20 years old while QF is 14 years

Qantas is 1 of 106 airlines operating 747 and is 32 on list. There are 74 other airlines with an older fleet.

Now the 767 are a slight bit older and Qantas is 69 out of 111. So 42 older fleets out there. No doubt the 787s are planned to replace the 767s

QANTAS has moved to reassure passengers they were in no danger when an engine part fell from a Boeing 767 as it landed in Melbourne today.

One incident doesn't foretell the entire fleet falling apart!

But that doesn't stop people from assuming that the incident and the age of the fleet are related. Remember the original claim was that "they're rubbish and about to fall apart! "
 
Thats like the hubcap falling of a taxi !

I have no fear of any QF aircraft !!

Try flying on a 747-100/200 or 737-100/200 ? lots of them still jetting around the place in some of the airlines people here will tell you are good to fly.
But fly a dodgy airline and say hello Fokker50 etc.

747 & 767's are all metal planes, as far as large jets go easy to maintain and look after, components can be tested using conventional stress testing means.
The 767's just look tatty inside, but compared to silkair plane they look pristine :)

The actual aircraft is just under 11 years old; hardly aging. :rolleyes:

The problem 'was so bad' that after a few hours to check and repair, it flew as QF444 taking PAX to SYD before departing the country on international duties.

I think that is the key point. The interiors of some of the 767s could certainly do with a makeover. But given the current fleet utilisation there isn't the capacity to take any out of service for the referb work.

Linking poor interior condition to airframe condition just shows a lack of reality on the part of the comparator.

understood the gist of what I was endeavouring to get across...i.e. the irony that, infact,
something did fall off a Qantas 747 and perhaps they really ARE starting to fall apart! Joke Joyce! :D
