Last Thursday evening my Qantas Frequent Flyer Account got hacked. I received an sms at 9 pm saying that my pin had been rest. I then received 3 other sms about 10-15 mins apart saying thank you for shopping on the Qantas Reward Shop and relevant reference numbers. Unfortunately the FF office and loyalty shop did not open until 7 am and 8 am respectively next day Friday. I promptly called the next morning at 7 am and after some process and resetting my pin number someone had purchased multiple digital gift cards draining my account to only 2900+ points. The lady at Frequent Flyer was very helpful and sympathized with my situation. I am also in the process of booking return flights from European Holiday for my wife and I using my points for Oct 2020. I needed to get a Stat Dec signed stating the information they required and that essentially it was not me that purchased the gift cards.

After speaking to FF Office I also had to call the Shopping Rewards Store stating the same issue. After going through that process I also had to send them a Stat Dec (with slightly different info i.e I ended up sending 2 Stat Decs). The person at the other end said that after some checking they said the digital cards went to my email address, which I relied saying no they did not. Anyway later that day on the Thursday FF Office called me back (the same lady) and said that Qantas has promptly returned my points to the full. She mentioned that as I was booking the return flights now, that they returned my points immediately. She did not know what had happened or if they could trace where the points went to.

Kudos to Qantas. Usually I bag them but I wanted to post this to say how good and quick they were.

Has anyone else had their account hacked?
I wish I had read this... I have got my account hacked and just came to know now... I didn't setup the phone no and today when I wanted to log in just to find out that someone has put their mobile no and I cannot retrieve my account . The balance is also showing to 0. where I had over 200000 point in my account. I tried contacting QFF but their service centre timings are from 7AM to 7PM

Call their reservations team maybe a d they can see bookings under the FQTV number.

An hour ago just found out that my QFF account has been hacked and someone has used all my points which were over 2,11,000. My bad as I didn't set up the phone security and was just relying on the account and pin and I was not really checking my emails for the associated account.
I am attaching the screenshot and if the person who did this is reading. You will definitely have Karma on you. his/her mobile no is ending with 68. I will contact QFF in the morning see if they can help with this but I am very sure the guys must have used them all and QFF customer support might not be able to help me. but this is lesson for other that do no rely on this internet security as we do have bad people in our society as they always are looking to fish others hard earned money.

Call them now.

It is not very easy to "hack" a Qantas account. It usually would rely on some very great mistakes on the part of the person "hacked". My advice is to really go through all your other accounts / online things......

They will reinstate with a stat dec.
Hi haroon

In cases like this Qantas will often re-instate the points on receipt (I think) of a stat-dec.

Good luck!
yep, I had mine stolen after logging into my QF account using a shared computer at the Beijing Hilton. A stat dec got them all replaced within a couple of weeks.

Likewise, logged into my emails at university of all places. Now I never use a shared computer.

Stat Dec is the way forward.

That said, they will have gained access somehow so you should change your passwords etc.

I could be wrong, but my gut feeling is this could be done by someone who is possibly a QFF current or Ex employee.. my account got hacked in Dec and I didn't receive any of the email of using the points nor that there is a phone no set up for this account. I have a little IT background and I am still trying to figure out how is it possible. I never use shared computer so I am very much inclined that this is done by someone who is well aware of the QFF system and have all the details. Either QFF data has been hacked and people who do not have setup there phone security and question security might go through this. So if anyone reading this please set up the phone and question securities for your QFF account.

Have you left a boarding pass in the seat pocket, or posted a photo of one on social media?

Same for me. I didn’t receive any emails about flights booked and the hacker had booked 3 flights and already taken one before I discovered the hack.

OK, but definitely don't go down that path when you contact Qantas. Qantas I assume looks at who used the points and takes it from there - you won't know so no point in going there.

I would say unlikely.

What does it say, in your account, that the points were used on? When my points were stolen they redeemed them on a number of e-giftcards, as it's a quick way to convert points into cash. I would imagine it is less likely they would do a family transfer or buy an air ticket, as in @goldenhorn's case as this would leave a bigger electronic trail as to who they are than you would want when committing theft.

I noticed that you joined AFF, yesterday, haroon.

Welcome to AFF.

I have a couple of times received an sms from Qantas with a verification code and I haven't anytime recently tried to log into my account.. Message says "****** is your Qantas verification code. Unexpected SMS? Call 13 11 31."

So not sure if someone is trying something on, but I'm often at work and it's not convenient to call the number up and sit on the phone forever to find out what is going on...
