Those that have flown QF95 - do you find it easier on the body from a jetlag point of view flying out of MEL in the evening and getting into LAX in the evening? Tossing up whether to go the 93 or the 95 for an April trip. The 95 would be a better use of my rather limited time at the moment.

The QF95 doesn't become a night time departure until the 25th March. It is currently an early afternoon departure.

Absolutely. Probaly not if I am flying over to the East Coast as that would result in a morning arrival and I find it torture as someone who can’t sleep on planes.

Virgin have introduced some night departures from Syd/Bne which is very useful.

I’d like to see more daylight LAX-Aus flights. I’ve used Virgins new LAX-BNE flight which leaves st lunchtime lands late evening, very body friendly.

I'm not going until around the 20th of April so will be an evening flight by then

Cheers Sunstar! I thought that it had to be better for the body. As I get older I don't handle flying as well as I used to and so I look for ways to try to make it less taxing. I'm buggered if I know how JB747 and the like handle it - I'd be a wreck!

It seems like all of QF's flights ex-USA land here around 6am or so - if anyone knows of one that gets in mid to late afternoon please speak up!

All good, meant to say that if I’m going to NYC (East Coast)I won’t go for a late LAX arrival which means I’ll be on the red eye to JFK. By the time I hit the hotel it’s usually been a few days since I slept.

Unfortunately QF or nobody else have daylight flights back to Oz. Virgin is the only one, and only twice a week. Found it very easy 11am departure and 6pm arrival in Brisbane.

Ah - understand now what you are saying! Certainly agree with that! Arrival of a late afternoon/early evening at final destination is key!

I might see if there is anything QF out of SFO that is better, need to try to find something but can't do the Virgin thing as need the QFF SC's

Unfortunately very few flights to try out this timing. But there are a lot that leave LAX/SFO mid morning to early afternoon (and reach Asia mid afternoon - late evening) depending on whether travelling to NE Asia or SE Asia, or in between. I've taken them multiple times, and even in economy very body friendly, compared to that late night departures early morning arrival.

With laptops and inflight wifi there is no need to take overnight flights for their supposed time efficiency, still can be very productive during the "wasted" day spent on the plane..

Flew on QF95 last Friday, 230pmish departure - in business.

Didn't really notice any different fom A388 other than the Boeing has less personal room.

Of course, that's with a 9am arrival.

I think the evening departure will work well specially if headed to the west coast (given the ~1900 arrival time you'd only get into a relatively small late bank of west coast connections from LAX, if at all, plus redeyes to say DFW/ORD/JFK/BOS).

If your origin is MEL or BNE/SYD/ADL your natural body clock will be winding down(hopefully :) ) so a dinner on the plane (or lounge), a couple of drinks, maybe a movie and you're down for the evening to have a sleep within a couple of hours, or say ~11pm local MEL time. Far better than trying to "force" a sleep much earlier in thhe cycle when departing in the morning from Oz. Plus the evening arrival into LAX means same thing.. a few hours, a late dinner and you can get some more natural sleep into that timezone (not going to work with redeye connections to the east though).

I certainly would consider it as a great option if I was going to the West coast since you're NOT arriving at ~7am/~10am after flying it's less rough on the body to adjust to the timezone I think.

I felt much the same with (soon gone) QF9 evening departure from MEL to LHR arriving at lunchtme was much much friendlier than the QF1 or soon to be QF9 arriving at 0darkthirty.

my 2 cents

I'm thinking the same way - in this case I'm only going about 10km from LAX so it should work out well.

What are they doing with QF9? I've got a London trip to plan for June...
