Hi

Considering flying SFO-SYD on 24 Oct and travelling PE. However it looks like the flight is on a 2 class 747 with no F or PE:confused:

Do PE passengers get auto upgraded to J or is there a J/PE/Y config 747 that SeatGuru and Expert don't know about?

Thanks in advance
Paddy

Expert Flyer is currently showing a 4 class seatmap for that flight with Y+ occupying the downstairs J cabin. :)

Many thanks for the quick reply, and many thanks also for the great news... I'll be calling QF first thing in the morning :):):)

...bearing in mind that there are no guarantees in life - you may well end up in the Y+ seat you paid for - but that's pretty unlikely I'd say. :)

QF have downgraded passengers due to operational changes where no Y+ is available. This happened to me and I was sent a flight voucher for use in the future plus fare difference refunded. Don't know about a op-up to J, seems more unlikely. Good luck. ;)

It would not be an op-up (unless W was full). It would be a J seat, Y+ service.

IMHO Qantas PE is not worth the upgrade, and only barely worth an OP up. Did it once on QF1, would never do it again.

Well given that Y+ does provide a bit more room and credits to AA as 1.5 Qpoints/mile - and provided QF doesn't get too greedy with the fare levels, it does beat traveling long distances in a plain Y seat.

And at least QF is offering a much higher level of OPups than traditionally.

YMMV - I can sleep in a recliner - some people can't

Pondering whether I should purchase a T class ticket on a flight almost certainly overbooked in Y......:?: or take the cheaper and shorter route which provides limited Qmiles.

If it is any help I have just booked a SYD-BNE-LAX, SFO-SYD flight 2 days ago for the 28th of August coming back a few days later on QF74 and have been allocated 38A (Y+)... O Class paid for (less than $1200AI).

Not so fortunate on QF15 going over, (47K) however for the purpose of a surprise weekend visit to Seattle I cant complain with the fare at such late notice.

Fingers crossed at BNE the machine at the gate makes a beep noise and a nicer seat is availed (although, content knowing I paid for Y and that is what I will probably end up with)

And I can sleep upright in a moving bus on a seat with no recline.

Some of us are lucky we do not need to spend exhorbitant amounts of money lining airline coffers just to be able to sleep for a few hours. I could sleep almost anywhere if it meant I would save a few thousand dollars on the airfare. YMMV....
