I regularly fly SYD-PER and PER-SYD.

Being a larger and tall person, I find the A330 Economy more comfortable for a 4-5 hour flight than the 737. so only book the QF A330 services for longer flights.

I moved back to QF from Virgin when the A330's were removed from the times I wanted to fly on the SYD-PER route.

Today, I took advantage of a Qantas sale on now to Book flights for April, July and November.

The Sydney-Perth QF583 flights are still A330's

The Perth-Sydney QF574 flights April and July are on A330's, but the 7th November flight has been downgraded to a 737 with a 15 minute later departure time.

They seemed to have swapped QF576 from being a 737 service to now have an A330, and QF574 has gone from A330 to 737.

SYD-PER also seems to have lost 2 A330 Services, 1025 QF581 & 1220 QF577

QF574 was an A330 for many years.

Does anyone know if this is a short term swap, or a permanent move?

Pete.

Nothing unusual about a weekend flight being operated by a 737. 574 on the 9th of November is an A330

It might not be unusual for VA in the past when they kept dropping A330's for 737's, but it is unusual for QF.

I have been flying QF574 on Saturdays at least 6 times a year for many years.

This is the only time a 737 has been scheduled on QF574 in the dozens of flights I have taken.

Definitely not unusual for QF to use the 737 more frequently on a weekend

Western Europe is all pretty short flights. It is like going PERTH to Adelaide.
If I go to New York I go up front.
A 5 hour flight from SYD to PER I go A330 in business with either QF or VA if I can.

Just to correct the title - Qantas don’t own any 737-900s. They’re 800s.

The flight could just as easily be upgraded to an A330 as your existing A330 flights are to be downgraded to 737s.

Saying the 73H is not "suitable" implies a technical issue with the range of the aircraft. There is no issue there. It's a comfort one in the QF and VA (and most other) configurations of these narrowbody aircraft.

It's funny really given the VAST majority of passengers in the world all fly down the back on these types of sectors and survive, let alone 16+ hours DFW-SYD v.v. Nobody LIKES it.. and we all want to sit up front of course, but honestly....

Don't forget while talking about SYD-PER, consider the raft of 757's doing 6-8 hour hops between the US and europe and until the grounding 737MAX's were plying the skies for Norwegian on trans atlantic ops.

And of course DPS ops have a mix of 737's - SYD-DPS was a 737 until recently.

Just wait for the A321XLR to be unleashed in this part of the world....

I do prefer to spoil myself with A330s in business between PER-SYD-PER.
i don’t get a choice to ADL.
The 737 is a true workhorse for the shorter flights and yes we do need them.

Sitting on a jam packed 737 PER-SYD right now and I would say that the reason Qantas and virgin are charging more for these flights is because they are consistently full when operated by these smaller craft.

I consider we are pretty lucky with what we get in AU, but because of it we have high expectations.

On a trip to Portugal in 2018, the US passengers on the coach tour were relating how the AA 747 that brought them across from the US had ashtrays in all the seats, the seats were very dodgy and the meals, they declined after seeing them.

When I told them you get a free glass of wine and something to eat in Y at dinner time on the 75min journey from SYD-MEL, some of them flat out called me a liar and others "what a lot of bulldust".

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Today I went A330 for the two of us. I chose the middle of the day so it should be unlikely to get switched to 737s. With business class seats in row 4 make it more difficult but not impossible to switch.
