QF55 Australian domestic tag flight B744 opportunity

A bit late to the party, but I only just found this thread — am very tempted to free up my Thursday for the increasingly rare chance to fly the 747 domestically! (Though in Y given I can't request seats be opened up...)

Assuming I can make it at all, would any of you be kind enough to guest me into the F lounge, if able? I promise to avoid contributing to a group! :D

I definitely think not being a big group, particularly on shorter flights, is the smart way of doing things.

Hard to test, but I'd love to see what would happen if a big group of F passengers flying to say, Singapore, joined tables together... would they note the airline and travel class and let them have their fun or would they be as snarky as they can be with Jetstar passengers? Does anyone have a spare $100k so we can test it?

Possibility, waiting to hear from a friend at this stage. If they don't attend then I'll have a free spot, appreciate that is not a lot to go on though.

I'll be in Y.

Looks like a poor weather (20-40mil rain) day for Sydney which could make things interesting... :)

Just in from KIX. According to the Captain’s PA the United mayday early this morning has caused lots of delays.

We are sitting off the gate for 10mins. It remains to be seen if that estimate is accurate.

Edit: it was accurate!

Edit 2: Flow on was a circus at the Int-Dom transfer area and delays for many Dom flights of around 20-30 mins.

I got to the lounge shortly after 0800. Sat at the bar currently but it’s busy so will probably move. May be near the library.

If anyone wants to say hello I’m wearing a blue Ted Baker jacket, grey jeans and purple shoes. I have a black camo backpack near me.

I’m in a black/grey patterned shirt and khaki pants hanging out over here with samh004, waiting for our delayed departure (so sad)…

Would love to say hi if anybody else is in here (it’ll still be a small group ;))!

3pm departure ...

Three passengers who somehow managed to check-in at the international terminal have made their way to the domestic terminal and are having their bags offloaded, further delaying us.

We also have borderforce onboard for some passport discrepancies.

Now something something door mechanical issue, returning to terminal?

Ah, good ol’ reliable 747s! :p

I get that some pax may go to the domestic terminal by mistake to checkin for a intl SYD/BNE, flight but being in the correct place to begin with at T1 then going around to T3 after that.....words fail me.  o_O

A door wouldn’t arm so we’re back at the gate. It’s turning into quite the adventure!

I assume this crew continues to LAX, so when are they going to hit their limit for hours?

It’s an upper deck door and the engineer seems to have had some luck. Supposedly. Might actually depart today, only 2.5 hours late!

When we did the flight last week, the crew all de planed in BNE

2 people on our flight last week tried to check in at Domestic and we were delayed by quarter of an hour.

They obviously didn’t get the email from Qantas warning us to check in at T1

NB. The lady looking after International First Class check in area was quite confused that we were flying to BNE. She told us we were in the wrong Terminal, and we needed to be at the Domestic Terminal.

Not easy to do. What were they thinking? The only thing I can possibly think of is a Platinum with 2 guests decided to head to T3 business lounge?

I though domestic kiosks would inhibit checkin for international tag flights - well you'd think at least the auto bag drops wouldn't be programmed for QF55?

Or was it a CSA who didn't realise that the flight was international I wonder? You'd think they'd just transfer the pax to a dom flight unless the bags had been loaded already on to the 744 a/c.

the thing that got me about the pax being confused bit was.. the flight was DELAYED an hour?! Even if the got confused and went to check in at T3 for the flight they still had plenty of time to get to T1 and still make it imho.

Thinking about this now, I wonder if the flight they took was something more akin to "regional port"-SYD-BNE, in which case they would have started and ended up at the domestic terminal after their first flight and their bags would have been checked right through, ending up on the other side of the airport to them.
