I though domestic kiosks would inhibit checkin for international tag flights - well you'd think at least the auto bag drops wouldn't be programmed for QF55?

Or was it a CSA who didn't realise that the flight was international I wonder? You'd think they'd just transfer the pax to a dom flight unless the bags had been loaded already on to the 744 a/c.

Sorry. My bad wording. I have edited for clarity.

We went to check in at T1 International Qantas First Class area. There was a staff member wandering around asking people where they were headed. When we said QF55 to BNE she wanted to send us to the Domestic Terminal.

If a passenger wasn’t a frequent flyer, and/or didn’t know any better they might have gone to Domestic purely based on this staff member’s advice!

NB. The lady looking after International First Class check in area was quite confused that we were flying to BNE. She told us we were in the wrong Terminal, and we needed to be at the Domestic Terminal.

I managed to confuse MEL check in too.

At first I tried the MEL F check in thinking they may have the D stickers rather than the domestic side given the int terminal, but they told me to go to domestic.. fine.. so I went there and the agent was lovely but totally confused.. and at first didn't think she was allowed to check me in to BNE and issue SYD-BNE bp.. so got supervisor.... who said oh just go direct to BNE we can put you on a flight. I'm like no I want the 747... lightbulb moment.. then sure no problem issue the BP and the orange.

btw re 55 yesterday, which was operated by OJU it was delayed initially because the original 744 went U/S

no wonder they want to retire them.. almost as reliable as the 380's :D

Still, being "forced" to sit in the F lounge for an extra hour was terrible... :p

(the extra hour on board with pushback and return to gate.. not so much fun)

We had a 6 hour delay on a 747 out of Brisbane one afternoon about 6 years ago. Boarded. Drank quite a lot. De boarded, and went back to the lounge. Eventually a spare 747 was flown up from Sydney to take us through to Singapore.

Incidently sitting next to me on 55 was a poor pax who had started at 3am in PER and was flying to DFW. She had been delayed by QF ex-PER and so missed SYD-DFW then was put on 55 to go SYD-BNE-LAX-DFW, then 55 delayed. She was having a nightmare.

I notice that last night BNE-LAX was further delayed by nearly an hour from it's rescheduled departure.

That was a shocking day for that passenger.
