Hi all - has anyone on here experienced EK flying BKK-SYD?

I have the option of two flights, being QF24 at 6.25pm or QF8418 at 7.50pm.

From my understanding, the seats across both aircraft are angled lie flat?

QF advantages
- Earlier arrival into Sydney
- Smaller cabin with 2x2x2 configuration
- Pyjamas

EK advantages
- Chauffeur drive at both ends - at least according to this link - Qantas Industry Sales Site - Policies and Procedures - Chauffeur Drive
- Slightly newer aircraft
- Very minimal chance of operational upgrade to F Class? :)

Has anyone experienced this route? Thanks very much in advance.

I've been on the QF A330 to BKK a few times and not a big fan of the J seats.
I think EK B777 is probably a better choice for the reasons you already mentioned. I will just add that EK has a better lounge in BKK.

OP, if you are a QF FF member and mad as *ell on collecting the most SC to keep status, I would if I were you book all relevant flights under an QF code, even if flying EK metal.

I thought the BKK EK lounge was closed for renovations? Either way as a QF gold it doesn't matter which lounge you go to.

While I have not BKK to SYD on the 777, I have CHC to SYD on the 777 that does that route.
I would take the 777, and try to get seat 8K, (I took this one) and the view out the window was one of the best assets of that seat on that plane.
In 8K, you have 3 windows to yourself, you could take 8A too, if you wanted, ...
Also, bad of me to say this, but the FA on EK seem a bit more wanting to please, rather than doing the bare minimum as on QF which I took on SYD to CHC.
On EK, you don't have to keep asking for things, as they do it by rote, ie, filling up water glasses, or wine with food, and the cheese platter, you get many sorts, also you get (on EK) a paper based menu (probably you get this on QF too-unless its now surplus to requirements (to save $)...
I note you are SG, so book the flight under a QF code.
I have not done the QFi 330, (only J class JQi 330), so can't comment about the plane you have in question, or its amenities, but if I were to do the route I did again, its EK (with a QF flight number) for me.
Have felt the EK service, and will fly EK again.
EDIT: if you love watching the in seat camera action on the in arm video minotor, maybe choose seat row 9, (not so good window and space wise), as in row 8, the FA will ask you to put away your monitor for landing, but in seat row 9, its on the seat back, so they cant ask you to put it away.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I will make sure to book the flight on the QF code. I think the Chauffeur drive in itself is probably reason enough to choose EK over QF. Also to add that EK777 apparently has coffee machines onboard vs. QF bodum coffee on the A330.

How does the EK777 J Class seats compare to the Mark 1 Skybeds in terms of sleeping comfort?

No limo,if you book with a QF number. I have done a number of EK flights xe Singapore to BNE and I would take them over the QF option anyday, and that was comparing against the newer Skybed which is not on the A330.

I've avoided the clapped out QF A330 birds pretty well - until recently :( Until the new cabins come on-line, I'd vote for EK (FWIW, I've never stepped foot on an EK bird) ... it can't be any worse!

If you do go with the EK option you're probably better off crediting to EK's own Skywards ff program due to the earn rate if crediting to QF.

EK may even give you a status match. SO had never flown them prior to doing a return whY BNE/MXP in Feb 2013 & they matched his QF WP to SW Gold.

Id go the EK 777 bird over the QF A333.
Going from BKK-SYD, I take the EK 777.
Going from SYD-BKK, I take the QF 333..........i prefer the morning departure and the afternoon arrival into BKK.

Hi all - just took the trip flying QF to BKK and EK on the return. I have to say that I was very disappointed with the emirates product and overall experience

On the EK return flight;
- entree was not served until 2hr15 into the flight
- main was not served until 3hr20. By this time, I had already reclined my seat to sleep, eyeshades on and ear plugs in. BUT I was shaken to eat by the flight attendant to eat my main, which was tasteless. I skipped dessert as I needed to sleep.
- IFE had to be reset three times, so ended up watching nothing.
- I was originally given duck instead of soup, and Sauvignon Blanc instead of Cabernet Sauvignon.......
- Crew would not distribute mattresses until after the completion of the dinner service (that took over four hours!)
- the crew member insisted that if we wanted continental breakfast, we would be woken THREE hours before arrival. I questioned this, but he insisted it was because the flight was full.......
- I woke up one hour before arrival, and was delivered a breakfast that made qantas cafe breakfast look great!
- On arrival into Sydney.....my chauffeured car was not there and had to wait 45 minutes. This happened for quite a few other passengers also.

on the plus side;
- amenity kits are far superior
- chauffeur drive was great when it worked on the Bangkok end
- Preferred the slightly later departure from Bangkok to get more from the day
- There is an espresso machine onboard

I found seat comfort overall to be similar - both seats were angled flat. The mattress on Qantas and the duvet was much more comfortable. Priority luggage worked at both ends.

Overall if taking this route again I will stick to Qantas. My emirates experience left me very disappointed.

I do suspect a lot of the love Emirates is given is simply because they're new and a novelty. I flew J last year (SYD-CHC - B773) and found it OK. The seat was fine and I'm sure it was completely flat (not just angle-flat?? - but I'll happily stand corrected). The service was average at best and I gave up asking questions as English was obviously not the FA's first or second language. I didn't get the warm feeling I usually get when dealing with QF FAs and there was just no warmth. It's also the first time I've flown J and not been talked to by name on every interaction.

Relieved to see that you survived that horrendous EK experience.

Have EK fitted fully flat beds to some of their 77Ws ? Or are they all still angled flat ?
Also since when do QF 333 J come with mattress and duvet ? Is this something new ? I flew QF J probably twice return last year on the MEL<->SIN route and once on SYD<->CGK and didn't receive this.

I believe they're all still angled lie flat in 2-3-2 configuration in J.

I don't think it's so much a mattress as a simple seat topper to smooth out the seat surface for sleeping. This was offered when I flew MEL-SIN last Christmas; you may have to ask the crew if it's not proactively offered.
