Hi guys,
Travelling 21st August ADL to HKG and can choose between going via Melbourne and catching the 29 to HKG on an A330-300 or via Sydney with the 127 on a 380... Both are similar timings, cost etc, what choice would most likely get me a points upgrade to J from Y ?

Cheers
Sean

It depends on your status and how busy the flight is generally.

I'd be thinking QF127, just because the experience will probably be better than on an A330-300 whether you end up getting upgraded or not.

more J seats to get upgraded to on the 380 and also more popular than the 330 with a superior product.

go 127. Recently flew to HKG, got upgraded on the A380 with points but rejected on the A330 coming back (via melbs)

I flew 127/128 in the 380 in the last 2 weeks. As a PS my J request cleared on 127 on a Monday, whilst my 128 request on a Friday night did not.

On the 380 there is also the option of Y+ as a fallback if you're so inclined

QF127 has only 22 J seats allocated looking at Expert Flyer (42 free), and 10 free in PE. So fairly open still.

QF29 has only 4 J seats allocated out of 30, so not heavy either at this stage.

Upgrade chance on either flight is a lottery so based on that if I paid for an economy ticket I'd 100% go with the 388 ex SYD.

Thanks guys, unfortunately wasted your expertise this time around, CX just released J seats on the date I need adl/hkg so that made the decision a little easier!
