There is a video taken by a passenger here. Warning - there is some very colourful language.

Wow, good find. That's an understatement. Most Australian air rage ever. F%&^%%^ C%$*^$##!! Classy stuff.

More seriously though, how was he allowed to get so insanely drunk?

Unless he's cracked open his duty free Jim Beam on the sly, the alcohol would have been served to him by the crew. Either way, you have to question how it got to that point without being picked up by crew or reported by fellow PAX..

In any case, I suspect he's up for a life ban from QF. Air Tahiti probably unlikely to want him either.

How long does it take to get from Tahiti to Melbourne on a container ship?

Blogger --- Qantas Flight To Dallas Diverts To Tahiti After Passenger Bites Flight Attendant - View from the Wing
Qantas flight 21 from Melbourne to Dallas-Fort Worth diverted to Tahiti on Friday to remove a passenger who bit a flight attendant. The Boeing 787-9 wound up arriving in Dallas 3 hours and 23 minutes late.

One passenger on board the aircraft even says that the disruptive man, a New Zealander, was restrained and “sedatives were administered” but those “and didn’t have an effect.” An ACARS message to the coughpit confirms the biting story, and that passengers helped take down the man.

Tahiti isn’t that far. Some start slamming it down at the airport, as if it was banned in Aus

So nearly everyone got nearly 24hrs in PPT - bargain!
I'm presuming the crew were the same.

Where is the RSA thread?

Yes, battery on a crew member is probably the most serious of infractions on an airplane. Not only that there would possibly be criminal charges.

If you land at 930pm and depart at just before 4AM next morning that’s hardly 24hours, closer to 6.5 or do

Papeete

Small airport with lovely outdoor eating place INSIDE the customs zone. 6.5 hours in that tiny space, I’ll pass on that
No lounge and no air bridges

The air distance from Papeete to Dallas is approximately 4,908.8 miles (7,900 kilometersIMG_1836.pngIMG_1837.pngIMG_1838.png

So many of those RSA threads talk about being cut off after what they consider to be too few drinks. This is but one example of why strict RSA is required.

The person offloaded was actually very fortunate the plane didn't continue to the USA. It's not a place to arrive and immediately be arrested.

I think you’ve missed the point. I was saying the passenger could have started drinking in MEL and it’s not that far to PPT, air time wise, that they may not have been served heaps by the cabin staff.

Given he was a New Zealander going backwards to DFW via MEL he probably had plenty of chances to top up beforehand if he was in transit.

Actually under an hour -I forgot the IDL is west of PPT
Landing was at 1231 UTC and departure was at 1321 UTC

that they may not have been served heaps by the cabin staff.
Add in a bit of hypoxia from altitude and the apparent level of intoxication skyrockets (for some - Cue back to RSA)
The heavily marketed B787 lower cabin altitude didn't help @2bobwatch here

The person offloaded was actually very fortunate the plane didn't continue to the USA
What is the risk now of being denied US entry after being detained by tahiti police if @2bobwatch was released by Tahiti and flown on another airline to the US. As there are no direct flights he would have to go via LAX/SFO

According to someone I know who was on this flight, it was nearly two hours late out of MEL due to an air conditioning issue, and the unexpected stop in Papeete was long enough to cause them to miss their 4.5 hour long domestic connection at DFW.

They remarked that a stop-over in Tahiti would have been much more enjoyable than the unexpected stay at a suburban motel in Dallas that they ended up having.

As the ground time was under 1 hour, what is the chance @2bobwatch's luggage would be still on board the aircraft when it departed?
