Hey all,

I'm flying T next saturday on QF 17 but I have requested an upgrade to biz.
SeatCounter is showing 9's for every booking class on this day.

BCDIJKLMNOQRSTVWY
9
9999999999999999
I swear a few weeks ago that some of the classes were in red, yellow etc.
Now i'm worried that i've been reading SeatCounter wrong for the last few months.
So does the above mean the plane is full or does it mean there is availability in each class?
Will I get my upgrade?:D

Thanks!

ExpertFlyer shows the same,
although when looking at the seatmaps

10 seats left in business (2 in first cabin, 8 in business)
prem y seats full, y just over half

E/F returns the following:

  • Sat 19th:
    • J1 C1 D1 I0 W0 R0 T0 Y7 B1 H0 K0 M0 L0 VC SC NC QC OC XC E0
  • Sat 26th:
    • J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 X8 E0

Note seat maps indicate the equipment being used are 4 class 744 sold as 3. All PE class PAX are being accommodated in Skybeds (rows 23-26, 29 & 30). (Rows 1-4 are First Class seat with J service.)

If you can look your booking up on www.checkmytrip.com you would see a 2x3x2 configuration.

I see this on 19th.

The 26th with the 9's loading shows 10 Zone A (First Class) seats unallocated and 21 unallocated skybeds upstairs (3 allocated).

Thanks for your help guys.

So this plane is a 744 only fitted out with First, Biz and Eco?
But it is sold as Business, PE and Eco?

I'm seated in 25K so I will be in a Business seat?

If I am, I think I might cancel my points upgrade. This is possible right?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Nup. No seat map on check my trip.

So what you think...cancel my points upgrade?
I couldn't care less about the business food.

Can you select seats using www.qantas.com/yourbooking ?

As for the upgrade, It's up to you.

If you leave the request in, I'd keep my eye on it - they may process it earlier than the day before.

It's surprising E/F returns a seat map but C/M/T does not. Once 'logged' into C/M/T look to the bottom of the "your flight selection" box for:
[+]view details click to see additional information including price, payment and flight special requests.

Click the "[+]view details" and the window will expand and you may see any seat pre-selection there. If you do see a seat number, click that/those and you may get a seat map.

Yep 2-3-2 on 'YourBookings' and Check My Trip.
Seat 25K .
Check My Trip also says i'm in Economy Restricted...?

I just hope that if I cancel my upgrade i'm still definitely in the Business section.

Thanks for your help Serfty.

Hi coughneV,

I'm flying to EZE a week later and have a Y ticket. I have been able to select PE seats using Qantas' seat selector, so have gathered that its a 4 class configuration flight, sold as 3 (ie no F sold).

Checking SeatCounter shows 9's in all classes on the SYD-EZE leg for me as well. This wasn't the case around 4 weeks ago. EZE-SYD is seemingly 'correct', showing availability in 'B', 'Y', 'W' and 'J'.

Good luck with your upgrade request and enjoy your trip. I would love to hear your thoughts about BsAs and what / where you thought were interesting places (meals, wines, entertainment).

Cheers, W

Hey wile_e,

I'm still thinking i'll take the risk and cancel my upgrade. I can do without the biz class food etc.
I gotta start doing some research on BA myself. All i've covered is the steak!
I"ll let you know how it goes.

Take care

took this same route last month. after checking seating config I brought PE and got J seats - skybeds. worked a treat.
BA is a great town with plenty to keep anyone entertained & charmed. food & drink was a highlight. exchange rate against peso was strong - got to see what travelling on the pound might be like ;)

Ok, so I called Qantas today. I wanted to hear what they said about what seat i'm in.
I asked if seat 25K was a Business seat (Skybed) with PE service. I told her that some research I had done suggested so. The lady asked what sites I had been too and I told her a few different ones. She commented that if it was SeatGuru, they often have the wrong configurations etc etc etc....

I then asked if they were selling First Class tickets for this flight. She said yes, first class is being sold. I then said I was hoping that if my points upgrade came about that I might be in a First seat with J service.
She laughed and said that was wishful thinking:D

So Seat Guru, Check My Trip and Expert Flyer all make the claim that 25K is a business seat in a 2-3-2 configuation on the 747.
The funny thing is so does Qantas!
Under their 3 different seat map configurations listed for the 747-400 Longreach,

  • 14 First; 52 Business; 32 Premium Economy; 255 Economy*
  • 14 First; 66 Business; 40 Premium Economy; 187 Economy*
  • 56 Business; 356 Economy*

,all have 25K as a Business seat!

So I just called back. Got a different operator. He told me that it looks like i'm in the Business cabin. He put me on hold to check the seat maps, came back on and said it looks like I will get a nice suprise but he can't be certain.

I think i'll cancel my upgrade request.

You should have told her it was on www.qantas/com/yourbooking's online seat selection.

It was showing seat configuration as AB DEF JK with no 'G' seats. :p

Of course the agents cannot confirm this as:
  • Equipment Substitutions can occur, and
  • This would encourage passengers to book PE fares rather than Business fares should they be after Skybeds.
Of course, you could keep you upgrade request and possibly end up in a First Class seat in rows 1-4

Got the biz seat with Y+ service.
It seemed that upstairs and the F section were both J service.
As i boarded I heard a very happy couple talking about their upgrade from Y to Y+.
