It is Memorial Day today here in the US. I finally found a local phone number and entered my QF number and password but every time it just cuts me off.

Booked QF11/12 yesterday. It was a struggle to get A380... lucky, I was flexible.

QF 12 JFK-SYD on 31 May I have J row 4. Am I likely to keep that seat all the way? They seem to have subbed it for an old 747, but don't know if it is all the way.

PS, how many hours before the flight would the counter open?

Looking on Expert Flyer, it's all the way to SYD on the non-refurb old 747.
I think check-in at JFK opens 4 hours prior to departure from memory.

An unrefurbed 747 all the way, oh joy. I've checeked in and have 1K JFK-LAX, and 4K to SYD. Not sure what that indicates re planes.

Normally the 747 used for QF15/16 operates the QF11/12 LAX-JFK-LAX.
On Tuesdays, QF11/12 is a 747.
The MEL-LAX 747, QF95/96, operates twice a week (mon, wed).
The 747 operating BNE-LAX-JFK-LAX, may operate back to SYD or MEL on mon, tue, wed as QF12 or QF96.

My Tuesday departure on QF 12 was indeed the unrefurbed 747 LAX-SYD. I had 4K, one of the 2 bassinet seats in the old first class section. The side tray under which presumedly the bassinet is located was a great size for holding things in flight. The seat seems unnaturally narrow and I am not a wide person.

The J class was was a 2 - 3 - 2 configure and therefore to be avoided if possible.

The crew were highly experienced, friendly, helpful and efficicnt. I decided to go straight to sleep so had no dinner. The breakfast was fine - muesli, eggs, spinach and a smidge of salmon, with the energiser drink, and 2 cuppas.

As the old 747, Tuesday's flt ex LAX may be more easily obtained as a reward seat, and is reasonablly comfortable in the first 4 rows. The 2 single seats in row 3 had the most space btw the rows.

One for the brains trust. Have a QF12 coming up - the QFF app (MMB) shows the flight as B747, the QFF MMB website shows A380, the website is still selling tickets as A380 and EF shows A380  Is the QFF app showing the likely outcome, or is simply the weakest link and is showing incorrect information? The flight was A380 when I booked last week.

I'm flexible with dates and can change if required ... want to position myself for an el cheapo F upgrade.

hmm, just read Himeno post... my QF12 is a Monday

As I understand it, QF11 is a 388 only as far as LAX, and then a 744 from LAX to JFK. If you search SYD-JFK, then you might have trouble with seat maps as the equipment changes mid-way, but should be ok if you separate them.

Currently:

QF11 transpacific is A380 LAX-SYD except for Tuesday when it's a B744.
QF12 transpacific is same as QF11 transpacific.
QF11 transcontinental is always a B744 LAX-JFK . The incoming aircraft that operates this would be QF15.

So the aircraft that operates QF15 continues as QF11 LAX-JFK, QF12 JFK-LAX, QF16 LAX-BNE. With Himeno's comment also correct

QF94 is always an A380
QF96 is always a B744 but not 7 days a week.

Even with all this the airline has been known to substitute an aircraft at the last minute.
Dont forget there are one or two B744 which has the old first class seats

what date Amaroo? I'll look it up

11th July.

It's still showing A380 everywhere other than the QF app. I ended up calling QF and they are at a lost as to why the app is showing B747. One week later the app is still showing B747...

The odds for an upgrade J>F are looking good :D

I am on QF12 Jfk - Syd on 8 July (Fri) - I remember reading that there are only PE seats on the JFK - LAX flight. I am at present travelling economy L ans was hoping to upgrade to J with points. Am I mistaken about PE seats only or are there business seats on the 747 to LAX? How many points do I need for a L to J upgrade JFK - SYD? What are my chances? I am QF Gold.
Thanks

There are definitely business seats on that flight. It's usually a refurbed B747. I'm not sure of the points cost.
