Hi.
Ive got a flight booked to fly to London in business on the 29th Nov on QF1.

Im just wondering if anyone here has taken this route recently as im curious about the current meal offerings on the menu.

Yes I know it will be on q eats soon but I dont get to fly in anything better than economy most of the time so im pretty excited and curious about what it available.

I wouldn't have too high expectations of QF J food....better than Y but that's about it :( (I have taken QF1 twice this year, the last being 5 weeks ago)

To be honest the supper service on QF1 out of Dubai earlier this month was fine. However I came in on QF9 and (while that supper service was good) so can't really comment on QF1 ex SYD.

Thats a shame
With what these tickets are worth over a normal economy ticket you would think they could provide some decent meals.

They *are* decent meals. There's very little wrong with QF J food, wine and service. I mean, there could be some French wine aside from the bubbles but, you know, that's the Spirit of Australia....

I personally enjoyed J meals on this route (sept 2016). They did change the J menu recently, and my favourite chicken schnitzel sandwich is no longer offered on QF2, only QF1. But other than that, all was very tasty. I personally find the catering out of SYD doing a better job (by Q catering) than say out of LHR (especially when it comes to a cheese selection) but even on QF2 the hot breakfast was very decent, and the scrambled eggs (which sometimes can go wrong even in a home kitchen) were surprisingly fluffy and tasty. Wine / champagne selection could be better but hey, first world problems. :)

Well I can't agree with the statement that QF J meals are decent with little wrong.
Mrsdrron doesn't do spicy so on Q eats on our upcoming QF93 all the small plates are spicy or have caramelised onion jam which she just doesn't like. And I agree on fish it is a bit unusual.
Now there is an online special of a lobster coughtail but that is classified as a Main plate and no you cant have 2 main plates. So she is being offered a 1 course meal in international J.That is neither decent or right.

Flying J is great. Whilst I haven't flown QF1 yet, I have flown QF9 (similar flight except from MEL).

You can eat something in the lounge before the flight and then eat something else on the plane. If you're not WP or above you'd visit the J lounge which has more limited dining options.

Some passengers (WP or above) would eat in the FLounge then try to get straight to sleep when they hop on the plane or skip dessert. Flying J I've found on multiple occasions that there's more than enough dessert to go around. The Maggie Beer ice cream provided on flights departing AU is delicious.

The lobster was awful - and certainly not large enough to be a main plate. I tried it in F (where it's not an online exclusive), and let's just say I was glad there were other dishes coming.

Fred Perry slogs his guts out to prepare those wholesome* and filling^ dishes and you ingrates do nothing but criticise. :p

*Wholesome may be stretching things a little far...perhaps dire might be a better word.
^Filling.......mmmmm... maybe not so much on the old supper menu.

All this thread proves to me is that this is a massively subjective thing. We all have different tastes, expectations and experiences; sometimes a meal can be great but if you're not feeling well or not up to eating much it's wasted, or you could have missed previous meals, be starving and feel it's not enough, or is lacking in some respect.

for me, QF J is decent without being outstanding. I think, for example, CX and NZ are 2 that beat it in general, but it's better than some others I've been on like EK and UA.
my 2 cents.

Maggie beer ice cream while nice, is a joke for J class.
There was a time when you got a tub of ice cream for dessert in transcon Y. Certainly not acceptable for long haul J.

There are other choices. I've asked for both the ice cream and another one of the desserts and always been allowed to have both.

For me the hot chocolate you can get when flying J is a big advantage over flying Y when it comes to the beverages.

Would be nice if they stocked Diet Coke not just Coke Zero. Diet Coke and Coke Zero are two very different drinks (I like one and not the other) and they should stock both in J but they don't.
