Last time that happened to me at SVO I didn't see my checked luggage on the unexpected layover at all. That was a time when I actually wanted to see it, though.

Going to the UK on QF9 and returning on QF2 - the way I read everything is that you can't take duty free from Australia or London in hand luggage or else it will be confiscated - is that correct - so the choices are buy in Dubai or on arrival at Heathrow or Sydney

Cheers

Correct. It's only possible from the last airport before entering Aus/UK.

Thanks Robbi - from reading it looks like Dubai is cheaper than Sydney and London on arrival - is that your understanding?

Cheers

No they pack duty free in special bags now and have taken stuff bought at LHR airport all the way through to YMML

What is it like to go through immigration and customs ? I take it that the transit hotel is located after that.
