Suspect that's not a glitch, its simply the cheaper fare buckets have sold out on the direct....
I have seen times when syd-hkg was $500 more than via mel or bne with qf

Understand.

Point I am trying to make is SIN-BNE on a 747 does not have any cheap airfares yet SIN-SYD on an A330 has cheap airfares available. And chances are 23B or 23J have gone already which means I would need to pay $90 for exit row. I may actually be better off spending the $200-$300 extra and booking the SIN-BNE flights as the chances of bulkhead increase.

Would love to see the loads at this stage not just the generic availability of each fare bucket.

QF has been having city-specific promotions lately ex-SIN, although I think BNE is included in the latest round of sales.

I was booked in Y+ on QF5 for mid November. They moved me to QF51 by default, with a dom connection from SYD. Didn't quite fancy getting to the airport at 7am, so I'm back in Y on QF5. At least they'll compensate me about $1 per minute for the trouble.

I made a booking in Premium economy for QF 5/6 for January 2014. Seat choice is in rows 23/24 only. So this means that business clase is zone A in the nose and the top deck?

Is this in a A330 or a 747? I suspect it's an A330, in which case there is no premium economy and rows 23/24 are the front rows of economy.

As mentioned by Mattg that looks like the first 2 rows of the A330 in economy.

When did you make the booking? Qantas should have offered you an alternate routing via BNE.

By default, Qantas would offer an alternative routing via BNE if seats are available. However, if Y+ is full on that day, you'll most likely find yourself involuntarily downgraded. Best if you give them a call to check. In practice, you have the choice of going via BNE if Y+ is not full yet, but you'll depart SYD at 8am, or take the downgrade and be given a refund based on their involuntary downgrade policy. I guess you could also push for a refund if you must fly Y+ in the afternoon, and book with BA instead.

Its a 747. Y+ gets business seats, were you not aware the 744 is operating to bkk over summer?

The OP is on QF 5 to SIN in Jan 2014 . As per post 1 its an A330.

Actually appears to be more than just Xmas period.

My QF6 flight on 17-Nov has been changed to an A330.

And looking at TheQantasSource,
A330s have operated QF6 three times over the past month.
Interestingly 747ERs operated on five times
and 747-OJS/OJT/OJU operated on ten times.

Thus in the last month SYD-SIN (QF5/6) has been getting SkyBed2s about half the time, and SkyBEd1s (on old 747 or 330 the other half)

I thought that A330s operated QF5/6 a couple of days/week normally?

QF5 is still a 747 for me in late November.

I thought it was A330 once a week?
Looking at flightaware it seems to be once per week regularly.

Hi there, relatively newbie on this site. I spend a fair bit of time going between SYD and SIN, usually in PE due to travel policies and I have been unable to book PE for the past few trips and am not able to book PE for my flights in JAN, MAR, APR. I fly out on Sunday QF5 and fly back Thursday evening QF6...is it just that QF5 on Sunday is a 'no PE' flight, as is the Thursday flight? ATM I am going through Brisbane to get the PE to/from SIN...certainly not ideal to spend more time in the air than necessary.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to AFF. PE is only available on QF5/6 when the flight is operated by a 747. It is not available when operated by an A330 which I suspect is the problem you are having. Note that this flight will be operated by an A330 for all of Dec/Jan then after that it will revert to being a 747 some days. Unfortunately for you, Sundays and Thursdays happen to be A330 days meaning no premium economy. Saturday and Monday (QF5) and Wednesday and Friday (QF6) are all 747 days, so here you have 3 choices:
1. Fly a day earlier or a day later on QF5/6
2. Fly via Brisbane on QF51/52
3. Fly economy

Does this answer your question?

If you must have a PE seat, you'll need to go via BNE, or switch to the daily BA service.

I thought that is what you meant. Still in premium economy on Boxing Day

Thanks all, will go through Brisbane for the time being then. Appreciate the quick replies.
