Might be my only chance at accessing a QP now my descent into QF-obscurity is complete!

didn't we used to have this? I remember getting little booklets of passes annually that could be used for accessing the lounge and then it changed - can't remember when, I am sure Serfy will remember.
Until about 2004, members with lounge access received 10 guest passes per year. These could only be used by a member for their accompanying guests. They could only be used when the member was flying.

They were not "lounge invitations". Note that a member could purchase an addtional annual multi-use guest card, available for one additional guest with no need to burn a guest card.

These paper guest passes were done away and the rules changed for SG/QP having up to 1 guest and WP up to two, anytime they had access.

I knew you would remember :). We were all gold at the time, so we would have had 50 passes per year. I used to throw most of them away at the end of each year.

This thread has gone very quiet. Just wondering if people are still getting offers? Have to say in the last fortnight I've visited several lounges (QC, J and F) and they've all been pretty full most of the time.

Funny you should mention that. Mr L_t_L was cleaning out a drawer the other week and came across the package of the guest passes - still in shrink wrap so obviously a year's supply of them.

Are these still being offered (I note kermatu's post #108) and if so: how soon before departure?

Am flying to Perth and back next week with Mrs BD and sibling BD - so my SG (limited) guesting means we'll be in the terminal rather than QP if an invitation doesn't come through. Info page states 2-5 days ... and we're already into that. I'd have thought that early Jan would be quiet enough that QF would be looking at all possible revenue streams so was hopeful that one of the party would be offered the opportunity ... but maybe not ..?

Regards,

BD

I would gently and politely ask if you can bring an extra person in. I have more than once been allowed to when it wasn't busy (although haven't done it recently). They can only say no ....

I received an email offer either two or three days prior to the flight. The offer was for the MEL QP on a Sunday mid-afternoon. They wanted $45. "Tell them they're dreaming".

I reckon $45 at MEL is not bad in certain circumstances. Four G&Ts would set you back $40 at the airport... And well, enough said!

Agree. Or if you are in PER then two drinks :)

If you plan on having a few drinks, then its certainly worth it. If you're not boozing, its an expensive seat (assuming you can find one) to sit in. The food offering in the QPs is so average and never changes. I think most Australian airports now have free wifi too.

Thanks for the responses, all.

Agree that the value is not really there - and especially as we'll be departing both pre-alcohol hours, but the thought of sitting in the terminal is sending me into a cold sweat!

Nothing through to offer either of my NB companions, so I'm thinking QF must be making money hand-over-fist either through ticket sales during traditionally quiet periods, or through general sales of QP memberships!

BD
