QF to sell lounge passes

This has to be extended to Dubai's lounge(s) ... absurd that it's their key partner to Europe but for ex a family of 3 with just one status pax can't get into the lounge. At least having the option to buy a pass would help.

Value for money: domestic is just not worth it, for $49 you get a few beers or quite a better breakfast anywhere else. For international there is the shower factor to consider, so depends how much you value that when in transit. Also some connection (SYD-LAX-JFK for ex) are pretty tight and not really much time available in any case.

Would anyone see value in $99 for HKG and SIN lounges? They are nice lounges but for $99 that's a really expensive visit to the lounge.

Given the current flight schedules, it would be pretty difficult to find an off-peak time for SIN and HKG as well. Perhaps for QF72, where they board before the east-coast pax arrives, and QF6, especially when QF38 isn't operating. Or QF118 from HKG on days 1, 3, 5, 7. But if that QF6/QF118 pax decides to arrive at the airport at 6pm...

If this is an off-peak initiative, I think it would be reasonable that the time of entry should form part of the TnC.

Totally. I guested someone in to the plaza premium lounge recently who had a 8 hour layover.
Agree with Andy that a 3 hour prior to departure rule would need to be in force (like plaza premium lounges)

Could also be an interesting test for the dress code rules...." but I paid good money/points to come in" ...

Now we will up sell you these lovely slip-ons for cash or points to enter ;)

Maybe they could upsell with 3K flights and this could pay for the lounge to open earlier and benefit the handful of SG's and WP's as well :p

maybe they could decrease the numbers in the QP by selling First lounge access to gold members - that would work for me

This makes a mockery of those who pay good money for an annual membership, not to mention a joining fee, or those who give QF a lot of business being a QF SG member.
If only VA stood up higher, I would jump onto the other carrier's lounge annual membership.

You do realise VA sell single use passes?

I will say that the flip side to your argument is that it may be that teaser that will persuade someone into purchasing a QP membership.

Yes, I do realise/realize VA sells single visit passes for Aud$55, I have used it.
Up to 16 June I had the opportunity to buy an annual VA lounge pass for Aud$300 as a PS but decided not to take it up. Am now back to VA NR.
With this news in AusBT, not happy * (insert name).
For most, a lounge is a lounge is a lounge, but me being based in ADL, ADL QP is still better, (until they retrofit ADL airport down the track).
Granted MEL and SYD VA lounges are not too bad. QP wins of course all up.
Will be dropping to QF NB after Jul 17 anyway, (will fly less), but will only choose to fly in dom J, at least still get a wide berth (own space the plane).

Indeed you can still get a bed, shower and swim in the SIN airside hotels for about that.

But this new scheme does give me some flexibility, even though I mainly fly *A now. And it somewhat makes up for the end of the Admirals Club 30-day membership soon, which was my occasional OW lounge fallback plan since ditching QP.

Also, when I was QP the best I could do was to claim that on tax (actually by salary sacrifice) as work wouldn't pay for it, which meant I only got some it back. Now perhaps I can just put a QP lounge visit on my work credit card as an incidental expense. ;)

I think AusBT has used a poor example in their article.
Substitute LHR or even HKG/SIN and the potential disaster is the same.

Which time of the day is off-peak? Throw in some cancellations and/or delays and there could literally be a zoo in there.

Nice of Qantas to think of more ways to get cash but you also cannot alienate your loyal members either. And I am talking about Qantas club members and Gold/Platinum in the same breath. Essentially Qantas will be devaluing their experience in the lounges. Less available seats, longer queues to be served at the bar, less chance of getting your favourite as it runs out.

The trouble is JohnK, that you could use that argument about QP members devaluing status members.

If QF have seen an opportunity to increase revenue without too much of an effect (off-peak times etc) then let them.

Except that (as noted in the article), given the relatively close proximity of departure times for all AU flights out of say LAX, SIN or HKG, there's there's likely to be very few passes offered for sale for those lounges because the only time people fly would be classified as a a 'peak time'.

The greater spread of QF flights ex-LHR (early arvo departure of QF10, late evening departure of QF2) means that we could see some passes made available for LHR but I'd expect this would only be after Qantas has monitored the capacity of the new lounge for some time.
