they are like a website but have a face and you can talk to them

I remember them.....they like to clip the ticket after doing bugger all.

If this is the only way to book via HKG, BKK & probably SIN - what a real PITA.

Just because you have no use for them doesn't mean others don't. And you might find there are some things websites just won't spit out. Perhaps it wouldn't be a PITA if you developed a relationship with one.

I didn't realise QF only wanted people booking via TA - sorry for my ignorance.

However, it doesn't seem that long ago that QF were all to happy to cut the guts out of TA's & booking groups....forgive the confusion.

In regards to TA - I've had my fair share. Had a brilliant one in Mosman, NSW until I realised that I could book direct for a whole lot less. The $$$$ that went his way certainly developed a few relationships for him I'm sure he enjoyed.

Rang QF again and they were adamant it's a no go. So emailed an industry mate ex TA and all round ticketing whizz. He had a quick look and said as far as he could see no QF issued Business class tickets include HKG anymore for a MEL-LHR trip except a " particular unrestricted J" fare which QF don't sell online and will set you back $18,000 give or take. Forget a JASA at that price!!!

Don't even think you can do a JASA with a ticket that has CX / BA on it if that's what you're thinking?

What about separate QF MEL-HKG and CX/BA HKG-LHR bookings? Is it a oneworld policy or just AA that protects against oneworld misconnects?

Correct. But until just recently BA flights fom HKG and SIN to LHR also carried QF flight numbers as codeshares and were eligible. No longer.

Are you looking for a paid seat or an award.

In this instance I was looking to do a JASA which is of course a paid seat in reality. But I'm not just looking at my single one off seat, looking at the longer term situation here.

It correct that there is no QF fare via HKG to London, UNLESS you go onto a mileage based fare. The downside of mileage based fares at that they are significantly higher in price than what most here are used to paying. Below are the routings between Sydney and London that are permitted for more 'normal' J fares with Qantas:

1 * SYD-SIN/BKK/DXB-LON
2 * SYD-MEL/SYD-DXB-LON
3 * SYD-SIN-HEL-AY/BA-LON
4 * SYD-MEL/SIN/BKK/KUL-DXB-QF/EK-LON
5 * SYD-DXB-QF/EK-LON

You can combine QF and CX like an earlier poster highlighted, but you have to pay handsomely for it.

No the OP wanted to fly QF flight number ex-OZ and then BA to UK so I can't see an issue getting a BA ticket.

Trying to get a JASA on BA metal won't ever happen and never did.

Life is so tough for you east coasters...
Atleast you can actually fly QF to HKG...

There is no issue getting a BA ticket.

I have at least twice been on BA metal on a JASA. My flight from LHR to MAD was part of a JASA and certainly BA metal, mind you it was a rattling junkheap of a 767 so maybe it was QF metal, or maybe it was BA metal that went to QF then back to BA.

Perhaps HKG-LHR was never available on a JASA on BA metal on a QF flight number, I never tried in the past but other paid tickets were, as was SIN-LHR. Now that QF is no longer flying themselves from HKG-LHR one might think that there would be some arrangement in place on this quite popular route given they purport to be part of Oneworld. It is interesting that there is not, neither through getting an ASA or a cash ticket. SIN-LHR direct is also no longer available with a Oneworld partner anymore, only via Dubai on EK. It is also strange that QF has no HKG-DXB-LHR ticket in place with EK.

You can add BKK-LHR to that list.

Hi,

I booked for my Dad to go to Europe in Y. Booked SYD->HKG return on special for 900 and then HKG->LON,CDG->HKG open jaw for 1600 as two separate bookings. I'm not one who goes for status and my parents often travel Y so Asia miles are actually much more valuable.

In most cases they even get better fares than online, are to be blamed if something gets wrong. Service!
It is like eating at McDonalds or going to a nice restaurant with a good service!
