Wow. I didn't quite understand all the ramifications of this Emirates stich up! You can no longer fly to LHR via HKG on a QF ticket at all. Not with BA or CX out of HKG and in fact not even with EK via Dubai and on to LHR. Now that is a bizarre situation. Game over. Au revoir QF bigtime for me. I feel a little sad.:(

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I managed to do a dummy booking SYD-HKG-DXB-LHR on QF/EK through expedia...

Have you tried a multi city booking with a stopover in HKG, followed by shortening the stop?

I'm sure it's bookable, just hard to do as they don't want you flying that way.

Don't understand - I mean QF, BA and CX are all in OneWorld aren't they? :?:

That's what I thought so I tried it and it's not bookable so I followed it up and spoke to Qantas and the answer was nope we cannot ticket that...fly another airline

Yes you can book it with a Oneworld carrier i.e. with BA and you will be on QF metal to HKG but a BA flight number so then it's not issued on QF stock and you cannot buy it as an ASA or points + pay with QFF points.

I am sorry but that is incorrect. Just today I booked through QF SYD-HKG on QF127 followed by CX251 to LHR. All I did was call QF, ask to fly to LHR without going through DXB and I was offered either BKK, SIN or HKG. I could choose to fly on either a CX flight (thinking of changing to CX100 actually to shorten the connect time) or QF flight out of SYD. All on the one booking everything.

Interesting what dates? It is certainly not bookable with Qantas online and when I rang Qantas I was told with total certainty, NO. (I asked more than once!). But remember Qantas is a licensed TA and can sell non-QF tickets, for example a BA ticket.

I just tried a couple of random dates for LHR via HKG & BKK.....on QF website - couldn't get pass go:confused: Used the multi-city function & tried a few different dates for both sectors.

Maybe QF have been reviewing posts suggesting many members will be directing their business along these routes:!:

Do you think that might be the CL status kicking in?

Rang QF again and they were adamant it's a no go. So emailed an industry mate ex TA and all round ticketing whizz. He had a quick look and said as far as he could see no QF issued Business class tickets include HKG anymore for a MEL-LHR trip except a " particular unrestricted J" fare which QF don't sell online and will set you back $18,000 give or take. Forget a JASA at that price!!!

Will watch this thread with intense interest......on face value it looks as crook as Rookwood:evil:

Just had a look on Expertflyer. There is a 'D' class fare from SYD-LHR via HKG throughout June available.

Take April Fool's Day 2014 for example,

SYD-LHR award; various options including qf127 to HKG then ba26 to LHR; qf5 to SIN then ba12 to LHR, qf21 to NRT then ba6, qf63 to JNB then ba56 to LHR, even qf7 to DFW then ba97 to LHR

Just looked myself and on any day in June HKG-LHR only 'J' is showing available both BA and CX in combo with QF ex-AUS. That's $18,000 but YES it is showing available. Qantas don't seem to want to sell it, and of course who wants to buy it?

Went on to QF's Hong Kong site to see if I could dummy book HKG-LHR and no cigar.

Quite possibly but I don't see why it would be an issue otherwise. QF say in their EK FAQ that you can still fly via HKG to LHR on a oneworld fare product.

? all I could find in the EK FAQ was the following which is rather unconvincing,

Qantas will fly daily from both Sydney and Melbourne to London via the global gateway of Dubai (subject to regulatory approvals).

From 31 March 2013, the new partnership will also allow Qantas to codeshare on flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth directly to Dubai, and then onward to 65 destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Options will also be available for customers who would still like to travel via Asia.
If you are flying to North or South America, South Africa, Japan, as well as New Zealand, The Philippines, Jakarta, Hawaii, China or other Qantas codeshare destinations you are not affected at all by Qantas' partnership with Emirates.

there is a BA business fare in the $7000 fare range with QF MEL-HKG and BA HKG-LHR, it's in I class.
