The three unconfirmed flights to NRT will be from SYD, not MEL.

SYDNEY – HANEDA
Flight QF25 – dep: 20:40 arr: 05:30 – next day – DAILY frequency with 747-400
HANEDA – SYDNEY
Flight QF26 – dep: 22:00 arr: 08:30 – next day – DAILY frequency with 747-400
SYDNEY – NARITA
Flight QF21 – dep: 21:30 arr: 06:20 – next day – thrice weekly – with 747-400
NARITA – SYDNEY
Flight QF22 – dep: 20:30 arr: 07:10 – next day – thrice weekly – with 747-400
BRISBANE – NARITA
Flight QF61 – dep: 11:15 arr: 19:30 – four times weekly with A330-300
NARITA – BRISBANE
Flight QF62 – dep: 20:55 arr: 06:55 - next day – four times weekly with A330-300

Thrice weekly SYD-NRT flight is not bookable yet... I wonder whether they may decide to serve Narita 4x times only via Brisbane and not launch another route to Australia as originally announced?

PER-NRT would be the best to complement BNE! Or what about something out of the box like CNS-NRT?

CNS-NRT is already covered by Jetstar. CNS has always been a leisure market.

PER-BNE sounds good, however, my bet is still on MEL-NRT on the 4 days as it complements JQ well.

Is there much of an inbound market demand for Japan to WA or would it be a case of there's enough ex WA traffic to sustain good loads in both directions like the SYD/BKK?

The discontinued PER-NRT flights were an early alternative to PER-SYD-DFW as AA (or its codeshares operated by JL) fly from NRT to quite a number of USA cities. And typically exPER the combination was less expensive than a transit through SYD. But QF seems to have a very poor record of maintaining flights which might provide easier connections to their OW partners. Your opinion may vary.

OTOH Japan is one of the larger markets for Western Australia's natural gas. Currently the only good OW connections would be on MH or CX (since QF discontinued PER-SIN - connecting with JL). If I were in the oil/gas business I don't think a JQ or 3K A320 would be that high on my wish list. (unless of course it was PHE-SIN).

Happy wandering

It would give PER people an option to Europe via Asia as well, and of course more efficient connections to Nth America and JL

The QF Int map doesn't show much of MEL or BNE, mostly SYD. Doesn't bother me too much, don't mind the 1 hour transit.
Don't let transits stop you going where you want to go or give you a chance to be in better aircraft.

Definitely a double up. We know that TBA-NRT will operate using an A330 with similar timings to the BNE flight. The BNE schedule is BNE-NRT-TBA-NRT -BNE... except for one day.

TBA could be Sydney, but will be an A330 and will have a day departure. Still hoping for PER personally which will be announced when the first upgraded A330 lands there...... it'll prob be syd or mel though.

Im a bit confused. I have a J award booking on QF22 for Sep next year (on a Monday) booked through a 1W partner. It is still showing as QF22 leaving from NRT. Does this just automatically become QF26 or are they reducing QF22 down to thrice weekly and QF26 is a brand new separate unrelated service? What happens to all the existing QF22 bookings?

I have a NRT-SYD flight Monday 19th of October and when I go to check my booking on the Qantas website it still shows as QF22 from Narita operated by a 747.

If you go to the Qantas website though and attempt to book the same flight, it does not appear on the list of available flights (only the flight from Haneda appears as available). I wonder why it's taking so long for Qantas to finalise the NRT schedule?

Why didnt they keep the QF21/22 flight number for the daily HND service, move everything and everyone over to HND and market the 3-weekly NRT service as additional (with a different flight number?)

Well, we still don't know if the 3 x weekly NRT services will be from SYD.

I don't recall them saying SYD, I distinctly remember them saying to be announced...

PER would generate good press and reassure the WA market that QF and QFF in particular remains worthwhile

They haven't announced it yet. But I think it will be SYD.

I think the Haneda flights will be operated by A333 (even though currently it is scheduled as B744) because QF don't have enough 744s to operate the planned schedule. But 2 more A330s are coming back from Jetstar.

The 3 x weekly NRT flights would make up the capacity lost by changing from B744 to A333.

i think the announcement re Vancouver flights would be imminent, so maybe it will all be announced at once, which is causing the delay.

You think they will downgrade Tokyo to A330 so they have the 747s to fly permanently to Vancouver?

Most likely. QF have applied & had approval for 3 x weekly flights to Vancouver using B744. They need to use this capacity by March 15.
1 x B744 will also be used on the new MEL LAX 3 x weekly service.

They are flying to vancouver 3 times in January. I'm not sure how that extends to permanent flights.

There have been rumours that HND and HKG will change to 330 to facilitate the retirement of more 747 and allow new destinations such as YVR.

My only issue with this rumour - these routes are premium routes with decent J demand. The 333 and 744 have the same Y capacity, but will see the loss of W and J capacity more than halve from 58 to 28 seats. What will QF then do to offset the significant loss of J class seats?

I'm booked on HND-SYD next year, possibly the first service actually, and it currently shows as a 4 class 744, so I have helped myself to the old F seats flying J. If it changes to an A333, maybe it will be sporting the new J suites so comfort will hopefully be similar to old F.
