QF to give SCs for Classic Awards [Economy(X) only, booked by Dec 31]

My 2 cents is that this is another alignment to EK.

Saver awards, possibly at existing redemption levels, return only (like EK), no SC
Flex awards with a jacked up redemption rate include SC's available os O/W (like EK)

MASA's are gone
Saver awards will be impossible to find.

If I'm right, I don't see many positives in this "enhancement"

Got the email this morning and read a couple of lines before losing interest.

So there is hope yet Qantas will restore Anytime access to lounges.

Did you receive a different email to the one the rest of us got? What are you talking about?

He is guessing that they will bring in tiered awards and only the higher tiers will earn SC's.

No, I got the same email you did.

it says you'll earn Status credits on eligible Classic Awards

I think that classic awards will be split into 2 categories just like EK; saver & flex.

It's a system used by many airlines where you'll be asked to pay a premium for better availability and flexibility.

I think that QF are trying to soften the blow of increased redemption rates by awarding SC's on the "Flex" level of awards

If I'm correct then I think these changes spell the end of MASA's as essentially, the only reason we redeem MASA's is for the SC's and QF has devised a way to get more out of us for the SC's

And there's no need to be obnoxious in your reply, a simple "could you please clarify your thinking" would have been enough.

I think your overthinking it, eligible awards are likely just to be those with a QF flight number, given JQ and EK also have classics on offer this would make sense, hope I am wrong though, would love to get SCs for my EK F award I am planning to take next month!

Ugh, that would suck - I really don't value the ability to change my flights all that much, in all my years travelling I haven't had to forcibly change one flight.

The difference between regular and flexible is always ridiculous too.

The video calls "view in points" ASA's now later its points plus pay, really.

I get this feeling its smoke and mirrors sounds good not much substance at least enhancement is not mentioned.

I also received it this morning - and very glad I was to see it! I was preparing to book a J flt SYD/LAX on "another airline" for next year ... will now hold off and await developments!

agree with markis10. You are overthinking it

O/T from this thread but in the same email, I only just learned that you can book QF Classic Awards within 2 hours of departure for some domestic and within 4 hours of departure for some international flights. Before, I think you required a blanket minimum of 24 hours.

Yes, I know the competition has been doing this for a while, but this is still pretty neat to have the feature now.

Anyway, back to your regular programming....

That change came in with the new engine but got snowed under by the MASA debate.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

I'm wondering with the several million members signed when Woollies came on board up they have a big liability showing and want to encourage people to burn some to keep points balances under control.

Just a thought.

I doubt it. The several million members so signed up are probably burning away on the Qantas Store, including gift cards.

Hey, even some of the Qantas Loyalty executive team don't see their Qantas Points going to flights all the time.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Got the email this morning too. Will await to see further info before coomenting other than this could be a positive thing if SC are available on Classic awards. Lets wait for all details to come out

Or to encourage them to spend points on QF. I was looking at classic awards (hahahaha) vs paid fare SIN-MEL return. 60K pts + $453AUD or $638AUD. I am sure QF would much rather people spend 60K points on this type of award (saving a whopping $185) than spend it on, for example, a Woolworths or Myer voucher, which would give vouchers worth~$400!!

Markis, are you being a bit "tongue in cheek"? I don't think you get SCs for PAID F on an EK flight number....

I am looking at a classic award in F on EK since I am unemployed from Friday so have some time on my hands.

I have done some dummy ASA bookings with the 'new' system.

They are definitely not 'true' ASA's as we know them. Its just points + pay... Isn't this misleading?

So does this mean we still have to use the call centre for ASA's or are they gone?

Hard to assess. Red Roo said further announcements "in the next few days" so here's hoping the speculation eventuates into a positive by the end of the week.
Knowing my luck though... (never received DSC offer, booked flights, then received 1.5 SC offer, booked USA flights, then missed out on entering the Ausmerica competition)...there'll be nothing for me!

Goes back to epiqure to buy wine instead
