QF to fly BENDIGO to SYD!

This might be a bit ado about nothing but I was booked on a SYD-BXG flight on April 5. I just got a message from Qantas saying my flight had been changed. I looked in the email and its the same time, and same aircraft, just a different flight number from QF2197 to QF1407. My Qantas app still says Sydney to BXG and does not show the background.

Just noticed this thread. Definitely appealing to the broader central Vic area. My parents live 2.5 hours from Melbourne but only 1 from Bendigo and fly to Sydney semi-regularly. The potential savings in time and carpark fees is nothing to sneeze at!

Does Bendigo Airport have free parking like a lot of country airports tend to?

Local media has the parking as being charged at $6.50 a day at the airport. For me being local it wont be an issue as I can easily be dropped off and picked up. Hopefully there is a bus service linking to the train station.

Had a brief scroll but believe I may be the only AFFer on the inaugural flight from SYD-BXG on Sunday 31st March.

If any members are free that night I wouldn’t say no to meeting for a drink, having never been to Bendigo before. I’ve booked the Best Western Carhedral as it was a good price and I have Best Western Diamond (whether that’ll give me anything, who knows).

Thanks for the reminder @samh004. I will have a look when I get back to work and see if I can escape for a weekend.

Gosh now there’s a laudable project to visit all QF Australian destinations.

Finishing up in Bendigo ,,,, to ride a tram down Main Street....

I wonder if there’s a list by year of when each destination joined the network ?

We are heading to Bendigo this coming weekend , my Grandmother’s people (the Yeo’s) are from there and we are attending a one off family reunion . Apparently visitors from all points of the compass including overseas.

As a Bendigonian I am very excited about this. Currently looking at booking the service for an upcoming trip to QLD (MCY), returning from CFS. Will save parking at Tullamarine or paying for an airport bus.
Since someone mentioned the Masons restaurant - I'm happy to say we have a table booked for tonight :)

We have been looking at the menu and it looks to be very extensive.
We would be interested in a dining report as we will consider this as a dining option this weekend.

Bendigo has a plethora of great attractions for inbound tourism making Bendigo one of Victoria's most thriving regional cities including:
- The Deborah Goldmine, Deep Mine shaft tours underground.
- Golden Dragon Museum, Promoting the long history and relevance of the Chinese community in Bendigo.
- Bendigo Art Gallery - an Art Gallery that pulls above its weight for a regional city.
- Sacred Heart Cathedral - an impressive piece of architecture
- Bendigo Tramways Depot - Great Vintage Tramrides and the Resident Superintendent " Birney the Cat" available for pats at the Depot.
- Outstanding Regional Cuisine at many of the great restaurants in the city.
- Railtrails - In particular the 50km O'Keefe Railtrail to Heathcote makes for great sightseeing.

+ many more not mentioned.

Great to know thank you. We spent last weekend there at a family reunion (a 2 day event held at Bendigo Pottery) and didn’t have enough time for sightseeing.

We did, however, dine at Masons and really enjoyed it. Also found Valentines Antiques and fell in love with a few pieces.

We will be back.

The Bendigo Airport carpark is now complete and the finishing touches are being made to the refurbished terminal building.

I really hope this is a success. I certainly know that many in the local business community are keen to use it due to the time saving and convenience.

The nearest bus stop is 800m from the terminal building at the airport entrance. PTV Vic need to get off their backsides and re-route the No. 60 bus service and coordinate the timetable with Qantas flights and V/line....

As another Bendigonian I look forward to the new service being operated from the end of the week! I honestly never thought I would have the chance to fly from my home town to Sydney so this is a very welcome experience to enjoy. I honestly had never contemplated going to the smaller destinations in the Qantas network due to the smaller propeller planes (Stupid fear I know), but now with them departing from just down the road, how could I not!

For those who are coming to Bendigo, I hope that you enjoy your stay in our fantastic regional city! Another tip for the foodies out there. If you like steak, give The Woodhouse a go! They've won awards for best steakhouse in Victoria and Tasmania and runner up at the national level so it's just not me thinking they're doing something good.

Also to add to the discussion about public transport travel in Victoria mobile myki goes live on Thursday. More information can be found here: Mobile myki

If you are travelling as a family however (Adults and children), please be aware that V/Line has a Family Traveller fare which can save you some money. In off peak times, 1 adult can take up to 2 children for free on V/Line services (Outside of Zone 2. As there's no family traveller fare in the Metro ticketing system which is Zones 1 & 2). During peak times there's a surcharge for the children. Still much cheaper than paying for 3 fares when you can pay for just 1 in some circumstances and 1 + a surcharge in others. More information for V/Line Family Traveller fares are available on this page: Ticketing & Fares

Happy travels!

Ironically I would feel safer in a good old fashioned turbo prop vs Jet .
I am however looking forward to visiting Bendigo again, particsince I don’t need to do that extra drive up from MEL
Like the sound of ”Tthe Woodhouse”

I don’t think a Dash 8 quite qualifies as a “small plane” but I digress.

Re the transport, if Vline had a bus going north to Kerang/Swan Hill to line up with the times it would be most helpful.

Coming from most other places and connecting through Sydney, it look
like I will still be quicker going through Tula in most instances sadly.

100% agree, but they can’t even manage to do this in Melbourne...for years they chopped and changed and tried to ‘hide’ the public bus stop! When you arrive in the terminals good luck finding any info on it!

It is one of the greatest disservices in the privatisation of the airport. Could have easily been a clause to allow PTV access to the main terminal drop off. They could even do it for double the standard Myki fare and it would be PTV’s most profitable route. But no, outsource it to the private sector so we can be reamed by Skybus.

Agree there needs to be well timed connections.

I’m surprised a single self-serve terminal wont be installed within the airport / bag drop area. Although I wonder if the PR release neglects to mention this option rather than it being completely unavailable. I’m sure QF are keen to run the site with the fewest possible staff to keep the flights viable.
