Re: Qantas Domestic charging for exit row seats now?!

I just went to select my seats for PER-MEL next week, and noticed they're now charging $60 for exit row seats even on my flexi fare purchase. When did this happen? I'm WP and thought it was included.

Wow QF.... Following the JQ model

I guess I can now say that on a A330, row 23 no longer "Feels like home to me"!

I echo this sentiment. I was so common in 23A (only occasionally 23j) syd/per this year that I knew pretty much every CSM by name. Bring on the free J wine/whiskeys. Clearly no longer.

Wonder what happens if you pay for 23JK which is an exit row on the 332 then the flight is subbed to a 333 where 23JK is not an exit row but a bulkhead with limited legroom as the galley is infront of that?

the terms and conditions say you should be entitled to a refund.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

I value OWE .... not so much QF Plat.

You and I haven't agreed on much lately but when it comes to this I have to admit you have hit the nail on the head.
QF seem determined to market P1 as the new top level to the detriment of WP. There are no other OW Airlines with equivalents doing the same thing. They may have these uber OWE levels but they do not promote them and reward them at the expense of their standard OWE levels. Maybe QF have engaged some marketing gurus who think this is the right strategy? Who knows? Personally I think it's a risky strategy which might just bite them in the @rse

Similarly, what if you have paid for a seat in row 23 and you manage to get a points UPG?

Upgrades do not trigger a reimbursement. I usually pay the 180$ for exit row and request an upgrade. If I'm stuck in Y, I want some extra legroom.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

I don't see how they could withdraw it for oneworld international services, but i guess they could remove it for JQ services.
Platinum travelling economy = No access.

Oneworld Emerald is a different story.

Well - they could try - but that would leave QF as the only airline to deny their economy pax on international itineraries access to the F lounge.

You'd then be left with little or no option but to fly someone like CX economy - and get access to the FCL.

I know it is not quite the same but AA denies lounge access domestically to their elites.

As I have said in another thread it appears to me that in the not too distant future Platinum One = Oneworld Emerald and Platinum = Oneworld Sapphire.

I hope I am way off the mark.

QR don't give Y pax access to their premium lounge at LHR, or any others AFAIK.

And what's to stop QF simply renaming the F lounges along the lines of BA's Concorde Room?
Not that I think it likely.

Good point about QR - there was no access at their premium terminal when it was in operation.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Well this charging for exit rows to Perth is a rude shock - just got the booking for my next 3 work trips - and went to grab my exit rows and got presented with a bill for $120!

I am only silver for now - Gold trip after next - but that is in 6 months flying - so used to being able to get my exit rows.

I put a comment on the Qantas Bookface page - this was their reply:
Thanks for taking the time to query this with us Brendan. This charge has been applied due to high demand from passengers travelling from East to West coast and vice versa wanting to have the ability to select exit row seating ahead of time. The option to select exit row seating on this routing was previously available to high tiered members only however, due to feedback received from customers, we’ve now opened this option up to all passengers. The option to request exit row seating upon check in at the airport is still available subject to availability. We hope this clarifies and that we have the opportunity to welcome you onboard soon. Pearl

So it's because all the naughty high tier frequent flyers were taking the exit rows and not leaving them for the peasants.

In other words - they want to milk the Jetstar brigade and shaft the people who actually spend the money (well, my company spends the money but I choose the airline)

In other words, Qantas is saying the charge of $60 is at our request, and for our benefit.

There is only one slight problem in their haste to put spin on the whole thing... a charge for exit is absolutely not necessary in order to make the seats available! They could have simply unblocked the exit rows and they would have been available to everyone.
