Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - Domestic Exit & International 80A/K,71D

I've got a SYD-LAX booking in Feb on A380 - my seat selection in 80K hasn't changed. As WP no cost up front, so relieved there's no change.

I pre-selected 80K on DFW-SYD next Feb which has stuck too (so far), no box asking me to pay $180. (If there was, I'd be mighty pissed...)

Just checked my booking for mid next year, used points for the mrs and kids for seats and seat selection, they have seat allocation 71D,E,F,G. Only difference I see is that 71D now states "Extra Legroom Seat" and Paid.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Have a number of QF7/QF11 runs next year and thought I'd test this out as a WP.

No prompt for charges on 71D/80A/80K :?:

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

The ridiculous decisions at Qantas are coming thick and fast.

This decision makes no sense. Just like the complimentary exit rows for Platinums.

And anytime lounge access.

And....

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

What I would like is a discount on Exit row seats when booked in Y, B or H. I'm about to book a MEL-LAX return for 4K and adding 360$ for the seat seems obscene.

What does a PE fare cost?

^ Now you mention is, one of my bookings is Y Flex. Perhaps no change on 71/80A/80K?

Can anyone else test this?

I have a B fare to HNL, but exit row seats are already taken so I can't do the experiment. I'll see what happen if I book this ridiculously expensive LAX ticket.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - Domestic Exit & International 80A/K,71D

To be honest it's been only a matter of time (I'm a little surprised it has taken so long).
This comment in relation to both International and Domestic seat selection charges being introduced.
More and more Qantas are adopting LCC philosophies, especially for those in economy.
Thank goodness there are other quite reasonable options for travel.

Agreed. I am surprised it has taken them this long to charge for these seats. As much as I dislike the change, it makes me wonder how much money they have been leaving on the table by missing other opportunities.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - Domestic Exit & International 80A/K,71D

You have got to be joking they really are taking the mickey now.

Everything that was once was good for frequent flyers seems to be being enhanced at every opportunity to screw people over as much as possible and pee off as many loyal customers as possible.

Maybe they could charge extra for the life vest and the emergency oxygen.

And when they start charging more for bulkhead seats we sit back and say they should have done it ages ago?

This is stupidity.

Qantas is a full service carrier not a LCC.

On the flip side qantas is supposedly a premium airline, and it certainly has premium airfares to match that rhetoric. I'm sure those premium airfares that previously included a component for free seat selection (on domestic) are not going to decrease.

i was just thinking about that. I know plenty of people who would pay a bit extra for bulkheads internationally, or for row 4 on a domestic/TT 737. benefits would be first off the pane, first crack at meals, and no one to recline on you. And - if yo do start charging for those, you can often score an empty seat beside you if the plane is not too full. (My Air Asia flight last year i got a free exit courtesy of red carpet service and had the whole row to myself on an otherwise fairly full plane.)

I believe you made a spelling error there. Its spelt pain, not pane :)

I said I disagreed with the change, FWIW I think all exit rows and premium seats should be free to OWS and above. But we have seen QF make a lot of "enhancements" recently, and unfortunately no amount of complaining from FF or punters on an internet forum has made them change their mind - so your choice is to either sit back and accept it, or fly someone else. I mostly fly someone else these days, as I've realised airline loyalty is a one way street.

What does annoy me is when QF management complain long and hard and give a million excuses why they are losing money, yet there is plenty of things they could have been doing. Hence the comment of why it took them so long, and what other opportunities are they missing.

This is just another nail in the coffin

They're making up for loss ground...makes you wonder how dirty those serviettes and hand towels were before making this call

It's even washing with hotter water to cut more grime, helping reduce drag,

Less legroom, no life rafts: how Qantas cut costs

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - Domestic Exit & International 80A/K,71D

Today West Australian there is almost a entire page dedicated to Qantas cost saving ideas..... they are trying to lighten the planes to save on fuel, there ideas are one less olive in the salad (never seen one in the salad), washing the aircraft with hot water to keep the grease / dirt down to allow for better aerodynamics, remove life vests and rafts.

They claim the olive idea will save 40K a year alone.....
