QF points seem largely useless for Perth dwellers?

I had been collecting qf points and have about 250k of them, their only real use as I could see it was international upgrades on their own metal. QF don't fly anywhere internationally out of Perth any more. For a laugh I thought I'd have a look at a holiday flight to indonesia on JQ booked with said points, value comes in at just under half a cent per point.

Any thoughts on how to derive better value for these points?

Cheers.

Domestic J trips.

I fly from BNE, but I still wouldn't bother using my points on QFi either for seats or upgrades anyway.

36,000 points in J to the east coast is ok value, but if you have no use for them I am sure you could give them to your cousin in Fremantle.

Usually don't book it for Y travel but there is still some value in J or you could look at a around the world ticket for about 140,000 points and say $1000 in taxes just head to those hard to reach places.

I wish QFi and Emirates would get together and allow points upgrades on the flights ex Perth. I recall the CEO of Emirates making noises about a month ago, but seeing how the only way out of Perth to Europe is via EK, then allowance should be made.

4lex keep earning the points for OW J class tickets...that's what I am aiming for now.

The toast comment was for buying toasters from the Qantas shop! Long standing joke amongst AFF'ers.

The 227K is referring to points plus pay amount. You need to request the "Search Qantas and Partners classic award" button. Then it will show 36,000 points PER-SYD on available flights.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Or use them for flying overseas and back into Australia where the fuel surcharges will be lower... Many flights within the US only attract like $2.50 taxes/fuel surcharges... I think I saw BOS to DUB on Air Lingus or whatever for 56,000 points and US$11 in business class, Bangkok to Hong Kong on Emirates in First class (3 hours) is like 36,000 points and $45 or so...

But yes definitely look for classic awards and not ASA's or points plus pay...

How to use QFF points effectively. The new $64 question....

Internationally exPER you have MH/CX/QR/EK as options so not terrible at all really, you can still get to most of Europe, SE & North Asia with one stop. All they've done is removed the insecurity/guilt of using those beloved points to fly in a piece of metal without an odd shaped and coloured marsupial painted on the side. Not only will you now get better flight timing and onboard service, you will mostly likely find better availability too! Enjoy.

And ditto for ADL, apart from QR.

Except you can't UPGRADE on any of those airlines. So you are faced with using all your points + a bazillion $$ in taxes...

My friends live in Darwin and they route via SYD or BNE and then upgrade.

Otherwise CX awards or as has been said earlier lots of toasters!

QFF points are still useful for those based in the Wild West. Regarding QF however (the airline itself), its usefulness to PER based customers could be questioned. If QFi shut down completely on 28/08, we would not notice the difference.

Not that i'm complaining in the least, but I don't understand how Perth to Melb is 36000 in J when Kalgoorlie-Perth-Melb is 36000 also.

I've been slowly running down my points by getting upgrades from PER-SYD, PER-MEL and return. One of the side effects of QF 's troubles is that they seem easier to get than before. A recent upgrade was notified 3 days out and the seat map was still showing about 8 empty J seats on an A330 for a Friday midday flight.

Value has deteriorated since they enhanced points required from 16000 to 20000, but it still beats toasters.
